Hi all,

I'm making a new system and would like some helping in picking a good brand of PSU

C2D E6320, 4gb Ram, 2900 Pro GFX Card.

What do I need to power this and keep it stable and what brands of PSU are recommended?

Thanks all
TM

Corsair, Enermax, Seasonic and Tagan would be my choices generally speaking with Akasa as a good budget option. It does slightly depend how much you want to spend as PC Power & Cooling are good although their top end options are really pricey.

I don't think that you should cut to many corners when it comes to Components like the PSU, a good one last you longer, and the rest of your components are safer.

It is perhaps a bit sweeping to say that no Hipers are any good, the Hiper 580w Type-R Modular seems to have more than its fair share of problems but most of the rest seem decent enough if not in the top tier of PSUs. :)

Are you also interested in the noise it makes or is that not an issue?

Personally I would think twice before buying any other PSU than en Enermax or Seasonic.

If I needed to buy a PSU now I would get a Seasonic 600W as I like my system to be as quiet as possible.

the Corsair 520w are made by Seasonic and are almost identical except the seasonic have a larger heatsink and supposedly run quieter. I'd go for the Seasonic.

OCZ is the same as corsair isn't it?

If you want budget try huntkey - the standard OCUK one. You can get them in the 14cm fan veriety if you want a super-quiet one. These supplies use yate-loon fans so potentially could be very very quiet. There's only one review of these I can find and I've not tried it myself.

Seasonic does a whole range of PSUs with just about everything you could want at every price mark. Stick to the S12 and M12 series for quiet opperation.

What makes OCZ appeal to you?

Another vote for the Corsair 520w PSU, superb, never given me a moments worry and to my ears is whisper quiet, I had to check that the fan was actually spinning once I powered up my system.
I think Corsair have brought a couple of budget models out recently but these seem to be a tad more noisy.
