Ordered myself a new case that has a vent near the HD's, and as such i'm looking to replace my 74GB 8MB cache WD Raptor as it makes a pretty damn loud racket when accessing, definately much louder than everything else in my PC.

Doesn't have to be a large drive (80-120GB) as I don't tend to put much on my C: besides windows and installed programs... all critical data is kept on seperate 250GB drives. I just need one that's quiet and as fast as humanly possible.

Suggestions please gents? :)

Samsung drives are noted for being quiet but not always the fastest drives around, a Seagate 7200.10 is about as close to Raptor speeds as you will get with a 7200rpm drive but there are two models with different motors used, one which is quieter than the other plus they only start at 200gb.

I'd probably just go for the Samsung overall though is the noise is a major factor. :)

get a silentstar watercooled hard drive silencer, thats what i've got for my two raptors, can still hear them (just when accessing)

failing that, go for a samsung, they're super quiet, i have 5 of them in a raid, which makes them 'loud' again tho :)
