Yay, somebody finally bought the festering heap Arosa!

Had a call in the morning asking if it was still available and they drove down from Birmingham last night to collect it. Got here at just after 11  Not the best of conditions to examine a car you're buying, but it was a couple of traders so i didn't feel to sorry.

They knocked me down £50 from the asking price, but i'm just happy to be rid of the thing! We lost £250 on it, but i can live with that as a lesson in shiney car ownership.

And obviously the wife now wants to buy a 206 before she starts work at 4pm, else she got to use the "]it's a bit big" Megane.

Just so happy to get rid of that albatross :D

Why did you get rid of it? I thought it was a fairly smart car against all the beat up cars you used to have? And the Megane is hardly big :p Nicer than a horrible 206 :p

Keep the Megane for another year if it passed it's MOT, so you can save up and buy something that won't need replacing after 3 months

Things were starting to go wrong (couple of HT leads failed and those things last forever!)and the gearbox had just started making a bit of a whining noise which is the first sign of the end of the box.

She drove it for about a fortnight before she realised she didn't like it, flat engine, no space inside, etc.

The Megane is HUGE according to her. And the 206 is obviously the pinacle of prettyness and girlyfication, so i'm on a losing fight there. :p

Don't do it. There is a strong chance a cheap 206 will make the Arosa look like the best car you've had.

NOTHING could make the Arosa look good :p I'm trying to slow her down buying something too quickly, else you end up with a lemon (like the Arosa)

The Megane is a cracking little car, breezed the MOT and the only noise is from a slight exhaust blow and a grumbling front wheel bearing, i want to keep it, bags of space and can carry a smegload of tools and my 3 lift ladder inside too :D

But not the cheapest to run...

There's a 205 derv for sale locally which i could probably get for 400 quid, she could use that for work (on veg hopefully!) and save her from buying the first 206 she sees. Then sell the Megane and i have the 205. That way we pile the iles on the 205 and the 206 doesn't suffer from delivery usage.

But now she's told me she doesn't like 205s :(

Apart from buying cars she makes sense. :D

OK no offence but WTF? Neither of these cars are suitable for "piling on the miles", and why do you want two?.. And judging by the amount you've spent on cars recently, you won't get a good 206.

The Megane is the most suitable family car you've bought, so why not keep it? It's not that big, really, your wife just needs to get used to it if she's not already. A 205 or 206 won't provide *that much* more space inside, where I found the space *inside* my Megane, especially the boot was deceptively big despite it being not that big on the outside. It's certainly not a wide car, and it's very easy to maneuveure. Perfect for commuting, going on family days/weekends out, etc.

The Arosa was having issues probably because it's a little city car not suited for doing 140k miles or whatever it had on it when you bought it in like 4 years, and it's components won't be as long lasting as those in a larger car. I expect an old 205 will give you more grief.

You need to give your wench a reality check, you ain't got the dollar to pick and choose, you need a work horse. Your the man, give it to her straight, maybe an uppercut if it's easyier.

If i ran the 205 on veg it would pay for itself in 2 months, anything after that is "profit" that could go into the pot to put towards a "nice" 206. On the other hand i could hunt out another 1.7D astra, hmm, good call, cheers! :D

I agree the Megane is a great car, bags of space and not that big on the outside. She's always had a problem with anything bigger than a shoebox though.

Her plan is to buy the first car she likes the colour of to avoid having to use the Megane.
My plan is to get hold of another veg burner (for her to use for work), then sell the Megane when she eventually gets a car she likes.

Why does anybody have problems with "big" cars? I don't get it, I'll drive anything from a VW Polo to a Renault Master LWB 3.5T van. You simply adjust your driving style to match the vehicle. Why do other people, especially women, find it so hard to drive anything that isn't the size of a large go-kart?

Are you on a mission to own every crap car ever made? Seriously, don't even go near a 206.

Saves me making a new thread suppose :D

Tell me bad things about the 206 petrol!

He's doing us a favour ridding the world of these crap cars by buying them and running them into the ground until they are nothing more than scrap metal! :D

Not girly enough & too big.

I've tried pointing out that the Megane is no bigger than the Astra she had last year but it's not getting through.

Just be a little more alpha male and inform her of the advantages of crash protection, etc ;)

Just tell her to learn how to drive, meganes are bloody tiny!
Second of all, no. Get a mondy or a xsara diesel :D

Never got why women want small cars, I had to buy mine a focus as a surprise, I couldn't stand that 206 any more, and even now she says it's too big (not often you hear a woman say that).
