Just got an ssd and installed it, very impressed so far. After a reccomendation on the best utilities for benchmarking/testing. Thanks in advance.

You have an OCZ Vertex 2E?? If so use ATTO but don't keep running benchmarks as it has a detrimental effect on the SSD performance. Good SSD by the way :)

Yes it can be reversed by leaving your system at the Windows logon screen for a few hours or over night which is what I do every now and again.

Yep, ive ran it just the once, also heard that running a lot of benches can be detrimental to performance. My nephew has the same drive, so he gave me a bit of advice and a few do's/donts.:)

ATTO results.

If you keep benching the Sandforce SSD drives they go into a slow down state. Leaving them at the Logon screen over night enables ITGC or or Idle Time Garbage Collection to work.

Running ATTO lots of times is fine since it's heavily compressible data.

If the drive detects heavy incompressible writes (as you'd get when running pretty much any non-ATTO benchmark), it'll start throttling your write speeds. Basically you want to limit the incompressible benchmarks you run and also give your SSD time to perform garbage collection by leaving it logged off for a couple of hours per week. To avoid heavy incompressible writes during the normal use of your PC, you can set the temporary folders for programs like 7-Zip/WinZip/WinRAR and audio/video converters to an HDD rather than your SSD.

Also, if you've already run lots of incompressible benchmarks, you can get an instant recovery by secure erasing the drive and starting fresh.

Great advice DragonQ. i see in another thread, it's reccomended to avoid hd-tune with sandforce controller ssd's, due to incompressible benches. Ill only have a few games and apps on the ssd. All media including my mkv's will be stored on mechanical drives and externals.
