Far far away....
I have had a problem with snacking in the past, all the stuff that is bad for you, crisps, chocolate, cakes and coke etc.

Now I haven't a problem stopping eating and drinking them and swapping the snacks for fruit, coke for water or tea.

I am curious as to whether there is such as thing as good and bad sugar. I am assuming that the sugar in snacks in refined sugar where as the sugar in fruit is natural sugar.

I know that eating fruit is better than snacking but I don't want to be substituting bad sugar for bad sugar if that makes sense.

There's no comparison. Fruit is good for you, chocolate, cakes and crisps aren't... and coke is quite possibly THE worst thing you could put in your body?

Regarding sugar only, it all becomes the same stuff in the body.

But the way the body reacts varies greatly depending on the type of sugar you put in it.

Fruit is good for you, but as has been said - whole fruit is a lot better than fruit juice. And just because it's good for you, doesn't mean that eating loads of it is healthy or will keep you slim. Everything in moderation.

That's right Morbs, keep chuggind down those Innocents...

I'm aware of the sugar content, but I'm a long way from being a porker and I burn off everything I consume.

good sugars and bad sugars are just methods of vocalising the differences between sugary foods that are bad and sugary foods that are good. When you take in sugars they are used preferentially for energy, when these sugars are consumed with fat the sugars meet any energy demand and hike your insulin levels. Fat is then stored more readily and lo and behold youve just ingested a load.

When you eat fruit the sugar response is no different, but most fruits lack any significant fat content. A lot of the other benefits of fruit come from eating the wholefruit and not simply the juices. Also remember that at a basic level juice is no better/worse for you calorically than beer or coke. Bout 250k/cal per glass. Not good.

Why not replace coke with Coke Zero/Diet Coke if you are concerned about sugar?

because sweetners give you cancer, or aids, or aids cancer, or something.

Anway all studies show that diet coke is worse than smoking, in a room full of gas, holding a can of petrol, while strapped to an al-quaida terrorist, on acid, at the bottom of a ravine, used for nuclear testing. So best avoid it.
