Hi Guys,

I've got a 2g 8gb iPhone which I've had for about a year and a half now. It's getting rather battered and is in need of replacement. However this phone came from America and was then unlocked and happily running on T-Mobile...

But I'm in the regent street store right now and I'm VERY tempted to buy one on PAYG (not signing an O2 contract)

Question is, would I be able to move my t-mobile number over to O2 and still use the iPhone as per normal? And are there any rumoured updates coming out?

Cheers all,
Jake

A new one is 'scheduled' within the next few months. If you really need one then go for it but I'd hang fire for now.

you cannot use other carriers on the new 3g phones unless they are on the old 2.2 firmware which can be software unlocked.

The only way to use another carrier on the new fw versions is with a turbo/rebel sim which are frankly crap.

Also I doubt there will be a new iphone anytime soon

Well im on the train home and posting from..........my old iPhone :(

My head got the better of me and stopped the wallet shaking and decided not to.

Ah well, shall wait till June :)

Good man, it will be worth it :) I am hanging around for the new one to come out too and I am quite lucky since my contract is out around May time.

When you say they are bringing a new iPhone, do you mean that it is the 3g version with 32gig?

No-one knows for certain (or is saying anyway). Depending on who you believe, it's planned to have a new camera, 3.2 or 5mp, possibly with flash, possibly with a video capture mode. It will probably have an increased HD capacity.

There is another rumour going around that a stripped down version of the phone is being produced.

It's a pretty safe bet that something will come out over the course of the summer - given the dev cycle for the phone so far and the fact that software devs have seen new iphone hardware revision IDs.

There's a possibility that it'll be launched at the WWDC (WorldWide Developer's Conference) in June, so it might be worth holding off till then to buy a new iPhone. Speaking for myself, that's certainly the date I'm looking to hold out till :)
