What are the main "Good" Uni's for IT studies such as networking/computing. Need to narrow down a selection folks!

Thanks.

Look at league tables!

League tables mean little - and can vary quite a bit.

E.G. The times league tables includes in its score a value for how much each lecturer publishes. Whilst in theory a lecturer publishing a lot is good because it means they are at the forefront of their field, when I was doing my degree, the more a lecturer published the less time they had to put on extra tutorials etc so the best lecturer turned out to be the one that published nothing.

You want university league tables, availabe in The Times newspaper, and usually kept at most good libraries and careers services. Look at which are good, order some prospectuses (free, and usually just a case of entering your address in the uni site online), then make sure you get to the open days of the ones you're interested in before you put down your application.

It sounds like a lot of work, and the actual open days are (the rest isn't), but if you think about it, it's where you're going to be spending at least 3-4years of your life, with THE main qualification for shaping your career, so invest the time, it's worth it.

Not the case, they mainly only rated top for old degrees, your sciences and maths. Not any new degrees like accounting, medical etc.

Agricultural studies etc etc :D

I would have thought of a networking and/or computing was a fairly new degree area

This is my shortlist as per UCAS form which I am about to submit..

Leeds Metropolitan University (L27)
Computing - Systems and Networks (G420)

The University of Liverpool (L41)
Computing with a Year in Industry (G402)

University of Southampton (S27)
Information Technology in Organisations (G560)

University of Teesside (T20)
Computing (Information Technology) (065G)

The University of Warwick (W20)
Computing Systems (G410)

Give yourself more time than just over half an hour to decide if those really are the courses you want to apply to?

I've known for a long time what course I wanted to do (IT/Computing) :)

These courses look good to me and I've heard nothing but good things about the Uni's selected. Definetly interested in the sandwhich course @ Liverpool with one year in the industry :D
