Good Uni's?

Every course will be different, make sure you look at the modules.

I did a year in industry scheme, if you go to http://www.yini.org.uk/ you can try and find a placement for a year separately to your course (thats what I did). I only found out about it after applying to Liverpool uni, but wrote to them asking to defer my entry for a year which they did with no probs. So if there is another uni you would rather go to but are keen on work experience, there are other routes you can take. Personally, taking a year out to work was the best thing I've done for my career prospects and helped greatly when I started my degree in engineering :)
 
I can't believe you've gone from not knowing whether Uni is right to you to shortlisting 5 uni's and courses in the space of 24 hours. You are rushing this far too quickly.
 
At least he's picked the best two cities for nights out save Newcastle (which comes in 2nd ahead of liverpool :p)

So even if he doesn't enjoy the course he'll enjoy the parties ;)

Plymouth - Computer Systems & Networking is an excellent course if you're more into networking and less into the comp sci / programming side of things.

In our first year we had a selection of modules - programming (Java), database theory, business, electronics (nothing too heavy thankfully), basic maths + stats, and a networking module (following Cisco's CCNA 1 & 2 - my favourite module, but not just because I got 92% ;))

Second year is more Java (but only 1 term I think), Oracle, more business, human-computer interaction, law, CCNA 3 & 4, network security and a group project to build a small business office network and associated systems (eg. clients, few servers) then build an ecommerce site and connect to the "internet" to browse each other's creations.

Third year is a placement year, and final year is more modules and an individual project which is worth 70% of the year.

It's a really good course. And Plymouth is awesome!

:D, I had 3 of the 5 Uni's in mind for a good while now, the other two were rushed I agree, but with UCAS you can have 5 choices so I needed a few fillers :p

I'll more than likely have all the applications deferred tbh as I'm leaning towards finding work instead :).

No harm in deferring the application Fox, it's the right thing to do anyway. Better to apply than to never.
