Good upgrade from MSI R9 200

GPU ain't your problem, you are rocking an 'old school' 4 core that's below minimum spec.

Check your CPU usage during MP games, it will be sitting at 95 - 100%.

A 4690 is still very current and shouldn't be a problem. My I7 920 still does decently in this game so I would doubt it's holding his 290 back.

so nvidia over amd

Unless you wait for Vega and save up while you wait yes it's the best option as I don't really see a 390x or a Fury being a worthwhile upgrade if you do not do yearly upgrades, I'd go 1070 though not 980ti as Maxwell has weaknesses that Pascal does not.

EDIT: But as others have said and the video has shown it's not like you can't get decent performance at 1080p with some minor settings tweaks.

He wants to play bf1 on ultra at 1080p so his whole setup should be up to that job, as TheRealDeal has said his 290 is 90 fps.

BF1 isn't GFX card limited at 1080p on a 290 though, its CPU limited, particularly in the larger MP battles.

Although his i7's cores/threads have weaker performance individually, he has double the number and BF1 is one of the few games that not only utilizes 8 threads effectively, but actually needs more than 4 for top tier performance. My guess is because it has been optimized for the consoles, and more games in the future will follow this trend.
