As the title suggests, i'm looking for a set of decent-ish surround speakers for my bedroom to enjoy the power of my shiny new X-Fi. Not looking to spend too much and was looking at:

The Creative Inspire T6100 5.1 set here: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...088-CL&tool=3&groupid=702&catid=22&subcat=165

The Creative Inspire 7.1 T7900 set here: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SP-039-CL&groupid=702&catid=22&subcat=448

Just wondering if 7.1 is really a difference over 5.1, and if either of these would do the job for gaming/music, or do you chaps have any other recommendations at all? :)

7.1 is hardly used and will just give you more cables and speakes to position/setup/hide, get 5.1 like everyone else :) plus some dvds dont have 7.1 support so they can be useless at times. :)

Hmm ok so which set would you reccommend? Was also looking at the Logitech "wireless" Z5450's and the wired Z5500's... :)

I've got the 6100's and they are very good indeed.

Nice bass on them and very long cables.

How clear are they, and how is music? Is the positioning for games excellent? Gimme a mini user review if possible listing the main strengths and weaknesses. :)

EDIT - Wow just seen the 6100's for £35inc... wtf that's crazy cheap.

Hmm well, my music is crystal clear with very nice bass.

You can turn the bass down and up with a knob on the back of the subwoofer and the main desktop speaker (Front-Right) has the main volume controls on it.

Every speaker comes with desktop stands and all the speakers have a slot for you to mount them onto a wall with.

I'm crap reviewing stuff, try here: http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=204897

:p

Hmm I won't be able to run my external DVD player through them will I... that's a shame I hadn't thought about that... :(

Couldnt you run the dvd player via the soundcard?

Hmm no idea... i'm really not up to speed with the a/v side of things to be honest... bit of a noob at this. :D

Which x-fi do you have?

If its one with the breakout box it should be possible

The Xtreme Gamer 7.1 is the one I have... arrives on Monday I think. Don't think it has a breakout box though...

Hmm appears I need a Creative Decoder DDTS 100 to pull this all off properly...

You could always play DVD's on your PC to your TV using VGA/DVI/HDMI or S-Video if your TV doesn't support the previous.
But then you'd have to move your speakers near your TV which may be hassle? :)

I play all my movies/dvd through my PC+HDTV so I never gave it a second thought.
