Good value eating in London?

There's several Pieminister places in London now. I know of two, one on Leather Lane and one in the Boxpark. They're the only one's I've visited, but there are more than that.

Pie, mash and gravy for around £6. :D

If you don't value customer service, you could try Wong Kei's in china town for a laugh.

yeah, our family tends to go here when we're in the West End before watching a film. The food is good, the service, it might seem like they are uninterested but it is actually very efficient. I find the portions are quite large so don't over order. I think a banquet is about £13 per head which includes a good starter course, duck course and then main dishes but I find it's a little too much food. I think a bottle of Tsingtau beer is about £3

The tables have paper cloths so perfect if children make a little bit of a mess (the adults seem to make the most!).

They serve free jasmine tea that is instantly replaced if you leave the lid open.

The only thing is they do like to sit people on large round tables so don't be shocked if you are joined by other diners.

One. invest in a Taste Card.

Two. head to Wong Kei on Gerard St, the best Chinese in town. Cash only.

Three. you can try lunch at Belgo, 7.95 for a main and a drink. With a nice burger on the menu for kids who don't like mussels or steak.

Avoid Leicester Square like the plague.

Oh and try Byron for something simple.

Another vote for bodeans. Awesome food, child friendly and quite a few restaurants so you'll hopefully not have to travel far.

Went to the one in Soho a few weeks ago and it was very nice.

Seems the per person limit was a lot higher than expected (£15 gets you most places) but if you fancy a cheap, tasty lunch then there is a great thai place near Piccadilly Circus. ~£3.50 for a nice large takeaway portion of Thai or ~£4.50 for a massive plateful (I struggle to finish it and eat loads). Fairly busy at lunchtime with office workers though but you can usually get a table. The other option if you want a sandwich or (the best in London IMO) Jacket potato and filling is a place called Fernandos in between Trafalgar square and Covent Garden, be warned though the queue at lunch on a weekday can be out the door and round the corner.

Otherwise I've been to a few places in Chinatown and they have all been nice, there is always southbank too, lots of places to eat fairly cheaply and a nice atmosphere. Just wonder round, for £15 there won't be many places with nothing you can buy for that much.

EDIT: Depressing how many chain restaurants have been mentioned in this thread! So many great independents don't get a look in. :(

Amp34, what's that place called? Im fortunate enough to work almost opposite Wheat which is a new thai takeaway. 4.50 for awesome green/red curries and they do the best chicken cashew stir fry. Far superior to Papaya on St Anne's Court which used to be the go to place. Love working in Soho for food :D
