Ok I am with NTL.

Was just using there `1meg` broadband - according to their upgrade page its now 1.5meg ... strange.

Anyways phoned them up and asked them to upgrade to 4meg...

to cut a long story short - 1 guy (pakistan call centre) said Id been upgraded to 10meg ... (not what I wanted) - UK call center said I had been upgraded to 4meg (what I wanted)

Speeds - usually download a few bits from Usenet have stayed the same.... so how can I really check ?

Phoning them up gets the usual pass onto one guy/girl after another.

Any pointers ?

hmmm not sure about it showing up in the router.... tried that link.

comes up with : 9,628 kbps ..... so 10meg broadband ?

I get 1917 on my 10meg connection.. Sounds fishy to me...
I never trust things like that as its usually a load of fubar for my connection...

Download this and see what you get.

HERE

1.2-1.3 mb/s is a 10meg connection.

ok tried.... that download :

1020 kb/sec

usenet is grabbing at 1.20mb / sec....

A Usenet providers test gets 8500+ kb/sec

they hooked me up to 10 meg by mistake ?
If so they done it months ago......

It seems like your one one to me  !
If your getting charged for it, tell them you want a refund as you did not get the service you asked for.

cheers fellas - tried the different tests - all giving pretty much same results... will see what they charge me for .... they say Im on 4meg apparently by their accounts.... but been getting these speeds for months ....

you can actually log in to the modem config on most modems,

http://192.168.100.1 (user = root, pass = root)

then go to opterational config ... mine says

Maximum Downstream Data Rate : 4096000
Maximum Upstream Data Rate : 400000

as you may have guessed i am on 4 meg (down) 400k (up)

tried that - using a motorola surfboard modem - can log on to status but it doesnt give much info.
