Sorry for the boring thread but I’m a bit behind the times when it comes to finding holidays. Normally I go on city breaks, which is easier because there is less choice once you've decided a city you want to see. Now though I want to take the gf away for four nights in Europe in May on a fairly standard beach holiday. What websites do people find deals on? Are they all pretty similar these days?

If anyone wants to throw destination recommendations into the mix then that would be welcome too…

If you are pretty open to where you want to go you should check out www.holidaypirates.com

Some ridiculous deals on there but you may have to wait until a couple of weeks before hand.

Alternatively use one of these sites for cheap flights :

Choose your hotel with the help of trip advisor.

Then find cheapest deals on chosen hotel with www.trivago.co.uk

Travel Republic is good, plus you can secure some deals with a £1 deposit.

Going away via these guys soon, 2 adults, all inclusive 4* in Majorca for £470.

I tend to book everything separately these days, so booked the flights via skyscanner - you can sign up to price alerts too, which is handy - for £150 for both of us. £40 for transfer from the airport > hotel and back again

Sky scanner is superb, although doesn't cover all flight companies.
Travel republic are ok. Don't treat treat them in the same category as thomas cook, first choice etc. If you get a problem before or during your holiday, expect no help.

My wife is a travel agent. Unless we book early or look out for very good deals, for bread and butter sun holidays either book independent flights and then accommodation through a travel agent.
Nowadays high street stores can pretty much always price match online for accommodation at least, with the benefit of an agent contact to sort any problems or do it even cheaper.

Olympic are good for late bargains.

Destination recommendations on what you want and time of year... If you have no kids I'd go for a quiet Greek island or maybe somewhere in Turkey like Oludeniz, or maybe Cyprus

travelzoo.co.uk - Used it once or twice but usually book flights and accommodation/activities separate. It'll give you deals much cheaper than you can get separately a significant proportion of the time, especially in big resorts.
