call of jaurez bound in blood - I loved the game
Well this is a western shooter but it has some great roleplay elements in it (upgrade weapons etc.)

He wants good Western RPGs. ME 1 + 2 are just that.
I think the OP meant Western as in developed in the west, as opposed to Japan. Rather than the Cowboys and Indians genre.

I would go with Call of Juarez.
From what I remember the first one was very much like a bit of RPG with action/adventure and Bound in Blood is a bit more FPS but both are great westerns.
I also have no idea why people started mentioning Mass Effect etc?

Because a western RPG is a game developed in the western world. As opposed to an eastern RPG such as Final Fantasy etc. I'm suprised you've never heard the term.

It really depends on what you mean by similiar to Oblivion. Do you mean sandbox style gameplay?. If so then Gothic 3 is the closest, it was pretty buggy when released but some big fan patches fixed it up nicely. If you don't mind a more linear experience then The Witcher and Dragon Age are hard to beat.

Gothic 3 with the community patch is awesome, extremely hard and doesn't really tell you much and have to figure out a lot on your own. Which is why it is much more rewarding, probably best to go with hunting skills first with a bow and arrow!
