GM says it has failed to sell its Swedish car brand Saab and will begin "an orderly wind-down of Saab operations".

No great loss really - they were making absolute dross recently.

Ever since that ad a few years back, I always imagined Saabs had aeroplane engines under the bonnet

yer, they never really recovered from being bough up by GM (although the rot was setting in even then...) they kept trying to make decent cars with the Subaru partnerships (and earlier fiat platform sharing) but nothing really came of it

such a shame, i always kind of wanted a Saab after the 80s 900 tubos

I know you all say they were mundane to drive (and I certainly found the 9-3 to be) but why can't Vauxhall go bust instead? At least some Saabs looked good!

I'd take a VXR8 over anything Saab produced.

Because Vauxhall do something that appeals to the great unwashed masses - sell cheap cars.

I actually thought the 93 convertibles looked really nice, no idea what they were like to drive or anything about any other modern saab's, I guess that was their problem, what markets were they really in?

I'd take an Insignia or Astra VXR over anything Saab have ever produced.
