Goodbye to Saab

Shame, I thought they looked good although out of my price range. Had my eye on the 93 Aero personally - remember the clip with Clarkson driving one, saying it was quicker than a 911 or something from 40 to 60.

Will never forget early nineties, my grandad was handed down a used one from my uncle who'd bought a replacement.
I went to close the door from inside and the handle came right off in my hand! He wasn't amused and I sat there thinking, 'what the heck?'.

If someone secretly removed all Saab's from the road I seriously think it'd take me at least a year to even notice, probably more.

The new 9-5 was just an Insignia in drag! It even had the same stupid Citroen BX steering wheel.

What will serial killers drive now?

Scania Trucks - well, prostitute killers will continue to do so anyway..... :D

Imo, the rot set in when Scania & SAAB were split, the cars no longer had that "built from granite" feel that the trucks still have today.

I Still say, its a sad day for petrol heads though.

Happier times.....

R.I.P. :(

Aeros always had too hard suspension for our roads, they would be given to press, press would hate it, opinion would spread. Vector Sports were always better than anything Vauxhall ever produced. 9-3x was a good idea (although awkwardly executed, most of people won't even know there was such car). But what killed Saab was three things:
- Saloons instead of hatchbacks across entire range.
- Silly issues with oil and servicing intervals on four pots that weren't fixed for years
- Unexplained lapses in trim levels for the prices asked.

Those things created cars that were of little use to target audience, not reliable enough for old school Saab fan base and priced with random numbers behind windscreen like something from labours budget.

That's a real shame. Am absolutely amazed that they can't find a buyer for this. Either that or GM overpriced it and asked the purchaser to take on too much debt.

Bad for the car industry that its lost a car maker that actually has some individuality.

What's going to happen to servicing and after sales? The vast majority of the parts aren't generic GM/Fiat parts.

Hate to think what sort of effect its going to have on residuals.....

'Tis a shame that GM first poked their noses into saab exactly 19 years and 4 days ago. Gm evidently didn't know what to do with the brand it had bought, and quite cleverly steered it in the wrong direction. In their attempts to market saabs to the bmw, mercedes, audi etc market, they alienated a lot of their loyal customers who liked the uniqueness/quirkiness of the original cars. The loss of the hatchback was another nail in the coffin. GM also spent to little time working on updating the designs more frequently. The 93 that was originally released in 1998 which looked almost identical to the 900 it replaced was a mistake along with the dame edna 95.

Only reason the koenigsegg deal fell through was gm's overprotective nature of saab intellectual property rights with the backing company Beijing Automotive. The technology is probably the original reason gm invested in saab in the first place.

Our family has had 24 years of problem free motoring between 2 saabs. (Not a single break-down between a 9000 for 10 years and a 900 for 14 years) Not even my brothers 13 month old civic could contend with that, as it broke down a week ago.

Sometime soon though i will get a classic 900 t16s to go with my current 900.

Minimal investment by GM into Saab as well at a time when BMW/VAG were pumping money into the development of their car ranges.

Also GM borrowed a lot of tech from Saab whereas there was no transfer of tech in the opposite direction, as there was nothing worth having from GM.

I really do wish GM had gone bust.

It's a feel shame to see Saab go, but really Saabs havn't apealed to me since they started being rebadged Vauxhalls.

GM never seemed to understand that people who pay extra for a premium car in europe expect something more then a standard mass market car with different stylng and interior.

since ive not shared these on here yet, possibly an apt place....my hire car on holiday from may:

RIP Saab.....you were crap to drive considering the price of you but someone will still miss you

My dads driven saabs since before i was born. I have a 9000 aero At the
minute which is pretty damn quick. The classic 900s were the best, 185bhp and handled Pretty good for a fwd car. RIP
