It's always good to get something for free so i did the deed, and initially i thought this is good and the upgrade went smooth. But only after using it for a week or so it turned to mire.

I could live with the crappy icons and horrible transparency on the taskbar, but the start up time had grown up to twice what it was and i was not seeing any improvement regarding killer features?

Then after having random blue screens running programs that were happy in windows 7 i decided to roll back which is very painless and easy to do.

I would rather have control over what is installed on my pc and i think Microshaft may have other ideas down the line.

If anyone can point out the major plus points on this os over win7 i would like to know as it just looks like a crappy skin job.

I'm also experiencing various bugs and such, but I actually really liked the new look. But I think for most desktop users Windows 10 doesn't really offer much.. the snapping function is better now if you liked that and the touch functionality is better now imo, but obviously that doesn't benefit desktoppers.

I'm not really seeing faster startup times over 7 any more on the test setups I've had running for awhile tbh - though the main one being in a VM doesn't really count - on the test PC 7 and 10 boot about the same speed and only 8.1 is noticeably faster than either.

EDIT: To be fair (sort of) most of the times I've booted up 10 its been applying an update of some sort which adds to the start time - but that gets a bit annoying after awhile if you just want to boot up and get on with stuff.

Indeed.

Or maybe its just the cool thing to do. Stick it to the man. Resist the powers that be. Stand your ground like a boss. Boxing stance. Etc...

Being on a version of Windows 3 generations old because your too lazy to press the Reset PC button is cool, y0!

I actually think you make a good point with the rest of your post than you kill your own argument dead with this line.

Why use an OS that you have to press the reset button, when a 3 generations older OS works fine? :p

Because its widely accepted that doing an upgrade rather than a clean install is always going to give you some sort of issues. Windows 10 makes the process of turning your upgraded PC into a clean install as simple and easy as possible with the Reset PC option. Its on the same screen as the Roll Back option too!

I doubt very much that Windows 7 would have worked fine if the OP had applied it as an upgrade to Windows ME...

I don't see the big issue with start up speed, first thing I did on 8/8.1 and Win10 was disabling fast start up,because its better disabled for my hardware ie no longer have my illuminated mouse and USB hub lighted 24/7 even after full shutdown.

Also I don't understand why people keep comparing it to Win7 which I ditched years ago,7 was ok but nothing special, stable but then I could name a dozen Operating Systems that are stable.

As to the first post, sounds to me he gave up soon as he had issues, plenty of people have had upgrade issues on XP,Vista,7,8,10 etc and solved them,so easy to blame the OS without trouble shooting.

I forgot the plenty of options out there for third party Start menus too.

OP did you upgrade then fresh install or leave it at the upgrade only?

If you did the upgrade only without a fresh install this might be the root of the issues.

Something you don't seem to understand due to having a different approach and requirements from an OS for some people Windows 7 is the best fit so far for their needs so everything will be compared against it as a benchmark.

Windows 7 success was because Vista was pap. Windows 7 is the benchmark because about 60% of PC's use it, but that's because it was the first worthwhile upgrade for 8 years, not because it was a model OS. The alternative to 7 was XP... Hence everyone uses 7.

I'm not saying its a model OS this is nothing to do with whether it is a model OS or not - for a good number of users its the best fit for what they want from an OS (that isn't to say its the best possible implementation of that either).

No, for most users it's the only option. If you don't want the touch of 8 you have 7. And if your a business you almost have zero choice and have to go 7.

Its 'all you want in an OS' if all you want is just what you have.

As I've said before Windows 7 didn't evolve the way it did by accident (that isn't to say its the pinnacle of that style either) but I'm also aware that style doesn't work for everyone.
