Goodbye Windows 10

My view so far is complete indifference, to be honest. I think it's better than vanilla 8, and on a par with 8.1. I still think 7 is better, and I don't really see how we've come very far since then. It's not like my whole way of computing has been turned upside down and now I'm suddenly super productive. It just looks more modern and stuff is hidden in different places. It's fine.

Mind you, I've used every version of Windows since 3.1 and just accept that things change and you just have to get on with it. There's never been a version of Windows that has left me gasping "I simply can't use this!" or "Wow - it's like a whole new world has opened before me!". It's just....Windows.

my starup time is significantly faster when I was on W7. I had my laptop on W8.1 and W10 is about the same as W10.

the shut down time on W10 is also significantly faster than W7.

I am quite used to W8.1 so for me W10 doesn't seem to offer massive boost in terms of features, but it is nice to see the more traditional start menu back.

Gripes I have is the way to access control panel items and settings. I had to go around the block to find my wireless settings etc. used to be able to access it via the notification. its a right pain.

If the start menu had been done with a bit more imagination and less restrictions due to the lowest common denominator on supported platforms it would have been a good step on from 7, the lack of decent group management/editing features, lack of any real ability to edit the style and theme, lots of restrictions on layout and what you can and can't drag and drop onto it, etc. just leave it far less useful than it should be on a desktop. Trying to do anything other than the one style MS have envisaged ends up with a super clunky, ugly mess.

EDIT: Also starting to really bug me that short of playing around in regedit i.e. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics and/or hacking custom themes I can't see any way of adjusting things like titlebar height and colours, etc. while the default ones are a decent size for a touchscreen they are just wasted screen estate on a desktop with keyboard and mouse.

This might help,http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2442474 ,last two posts.

I'm sure Microsoft are working on improvements, but as always takes time.

I already have transparency/blur behind enabled (plus was one of the 50% that they enabled it on for earlier testing). That doesn't help with what I'm talking about.
