I have to quit f@h.

I have been accused of being the reason behind a higher leccy bill, no matter what i say, or try to proove, i get shouted over.

As a result i have to quit f@h (id like to see you try to argue with my dad  ) :(

The new rules are:

computers are only on for the time someone is sat using them.
No heavy load on the cpu even for the short duration on the machine on.

This, for me, is a real **** as i take great pride in folding, maybe at some point i might be allowed to return, but with money as tight as it is, i do see the 'rents reasons.

So, this soldier is now down for the count :(

oooh that's not good :o

I can understand the "computers are only on for the time someone is sat using them" part but the "No heavy load on the cpu even for the short duration on the machine on" does seem a bit far fetched

hide a 3KW heater up in the loft and stay off the PC as much as possible for a month :p

Yes, i tried to argue over that point, i insisted that there are far worse things than the cpu loaded for a short duration.

Pool pump
boiler (ours is a very old unit the size of a smart for2 that sounds like concord)
air con
aga
leaving bathroom lights on (they are downlighters)
etc.

but there was no winning :(

Unfortunatly the 'discussion' was bias from the start, i have to/am very thankful my dad offered to pay for me to return to my old school.
But meh. 'rents > logic.

well if they pay the leccy I guess it's up to them at the end of the day

my dad was quite glad when I left and took some crunchers with me :p
though I did leave two there for a while and continue paying for their broadband that he uses everyday so it was quite fair anyway - plus one machine needed to be there anyway to share the connection between my PCs and the others in the house

I've since bought an old ADSL Modem/Router from the members market and brought all the PCs up here as looking after them was impossible from here - though for some reason I'm still paying for their Broadband  :p

Such is life with ever-escalating power bills. Keep the PC unused as much as you can until the next electricity bill, then you'll have all the evidence you need. Not that I'd argue anyway - if finances are tight, the PC isn't exactly a priority.

I'm expecting much more of this to come - PCs getting blamed for extortionate energy price rises. Mind you, I expect to be in the same boat next year - I'm going to get all the last two years price rises in one almighty thump. :(

PCs are also getting far more efficient - especially power supplies and CPUs. Energy prices may be increasing but the amount of power PCs need is becoming less.

My 4400+ rig has been on pretty much 24/7 since June and so far parents haven't mentioned the leccy bill, so it can't be that bad! :D

Sorry to hear that Lazy, that was the reason I had to cut back on crunchers too. That was some time ago and landlord instead of parents. Still, some more have found their way back on 24x7, silent crunchers are the way to go!:D
Best of luck chap but if things are tight then something has to give.

To continue the electric debate - had some fresh news today that my company do not pay electric bill :D as it's included in the rent (with is currently fixed) so my farm is safe for now.

Also home rig back up and running :D

lay-z-boy - also sorry to hear that :( - their's alway the art of borging to fall back on, that or Zefan offer (but I guess you need your PC for other non-folding uses)

 You wont even be able to play PC games

Thats the slacker in me talking, sorry.

You can always try buying some lovely new high efficency PSU's.
I realise that it wouldn't be cheap to upgrade an entire farm at the same time but you could reduce the bill a bit depending on how old/inefficient the PSU's are that you currently have. Assuming you haven't upgraded them already.

I'm waiting for my dad to say a similar thing when this quarters electricity bill comes in. He has already hinted that he isn't particularily happy having 2.5 PC's on 24/7 already. Luckily I will be taking at least one PC to uni with me next week so it shouldnt be as bad and I may be able to carry on with both.

My leccie is £120 per month with gritish bass....

Used the above to change supplier and gonna save about 20% when they can get their collective fingers out and switch me over.

Sad to see you go lay-z-boy

Hope to see you back folding sometime in the future mate.

 Two point five? Two times five? Eh? :)

Oh and thats too bad lazy. I'm looking to change the households leccy supplier. Will use which? when all the relevant documents have been found.

Lol well my 2 PC's on 24/7 and the family one on during the day. :p

Update:

God sure does deliver when you need him too. :D

Got a hand signed letter AND a phone call from manwebb today, they miscalculated our bills and charged us for both us and the 2 parts of the house that we rent off (east and west wing of the house) AND the stables!

:D:D:D
