It appears Google now requires age verification via driving license, passport or credit card. driving lic / passport can take up to 3 days to verify age.

How long has this been a thing? Great idea, keep the pesky kids out :D

Yes I came across this. I'm not very comfortable sharing that information. Maybe I'm being over cautious.
I wasnt at first because I thought it was some dodgy website / being hacked. I dont see a problem with Google knowing my card details for age verification. OcuK, Amazon and many many mroe website have my details so figured it doesnt matter. That and the bank will cover any financial loss anyway

Surely kids will just rob their parents card details for age verification anyway

It appears Google now requires age verification . . .
Why

I can just about understand it for anyone visiting sites or running searches that are "risqué" but if all you want to do is look up the capital of some obscure country, or determine the differences between Redwings and Fieldfares why on earth does Google need to know

Google collecting more information?
That would be my guess.

Correct me if I am wrong, but it's only if a channel has been flagged or has chosen to flag itself with an age restriction. Then it will ask you to verify your age. Otherwise you don't need to? At least that's how it seems to work for me.

Correct

Dont send them anything. Just use nfswyoutube.com instead and you can bypass it.

You can guarantee in a few years all the passport/licence details will get hacked. Even though they were not supposed to be storing them...

What's Google up too....

ah then that's fine I would upload my age verification if I went on something that required me to do so. No problemo.

I had this the other day, i'm surprised they couldn't just see that I'd used a credit card for years for my google play account.

It appeared for me when i tried to open a youtube video by a certain Roy Chubby Brown

Surely the simple fact that you purposely tried to watch Roy Chubby Brown confirms that at you are plenty old enough to do whatever you want.

Is this for existing accounts or new ones?

This is for newer accounts, I think. Also I wasn't aware this was happening here? I thought we had avoided it since leaving the EU.

EDIT: Just created a new Gmail account saying I was born in 2004 and it didn't ask.

@Guest2 are you in Europe?

Yeah... it doesn't work.

It's not that you just need a login now, you need an account that's been age verified. They started pushing this more towards the end of last year.

This is only for watching certain videos on Youtube. You won't be asked just for creating an account.
