Google Android Event - 29th October

So say I'm not keen on Nexus 4, and decide to go with my current plan of getting a noteII. Are the XDA custom roms on newest software quicker than waiting for an official release? Or would it be stuck with 4.1 until an official samsung release is made regardless?

Regarding themes etc, I much prefer the standard Samsung touch wiz look. I don't mean offence to anyone, but I was underwhelmed browsing through the mobile desktop picture thread.

Sorry for hijacking the thread!

Nexus devices will receive the latest version of android much before any custom rom based on the same version of android is brought out.

The rom communities need the manufacturer sources for each device before they can build the latest version of android, manufacturers are famously slow releasing the sources so it often becomes a frustrating waiting game where the mod communities hands are completely tied till the manufacturer gets off their bums and releases them.

Nexus devices are updated directly from Google thus cutting out the annoying manufacturers.

So getting an S3 now would be silly, as it's only jsut been put onto 4.1? How long will it likely be before the note2 gets 4.2?

I'm hpoing they will announce when JB will be rolling out on devices, not just 'in the coming months' that a lot of manufacturers have been saying

Google's done it's bit they've released it, it's up to the manufacturers if they want to tell you when they'll actually get round to giving it to their users.

Impossible to say, my best guess would be within the first half of 2013 for official 4.2 for the Note II. Probably first quarter for an unofficial 4.2 using leaked source files from Samsung.

That is usually how it goes anyway.

Nexus10 user manual leak

The manual, posted at Korean site Seeko, doesn't give too much away. The image shows a form factor very similar to that of the Galaxy Note 10.1, highlights being a micro HDMI output, rear camera, proprietary connector (boo) and no microSD (boo).

The screen is rumoured to be running at 2560x1600 driven by a Tegra3 processor, but I imagine we'll find out more next week. It's gonna be crazy!

I know that Google's strategy for tablets is getting them to retail at the right price points, by this tablet is going to be a flop for me personally.

Tegra3 just isn't going to be able to push all those pixels and maintain any playable frame rates on decent games like Horn, Wild Blood and the like. My 1280*800 TF201 struggles to play some games, that's got a Tegra3 SoC and Gameloft have had to disable certain graphical effects in games in order to get them to run smoothly on Tegra3 devices.

Also, Galaxy Note 10.1 style? I hope they mean looks and not the materials as the Note 10.1 feels so cheap. I just can't believe how wrong Google and the Android OEMs have got it when it comes to tablets, especially with the launch of Windows 8 tablets on the horizon.
