how can you tell if a site has been blacklisted/banned by google?

if can not be found by typing it's site name into Google it may have been blacklisted.

or, it was never listed for other reasons (like, it was never submitted or linked up)

I have no idea if this is an effective way of finding out. It may just be a glorified search that bases it's results on wheather or not it is found in Google.

You could always try emailing Google to enquire about it.

Although I haven't heard of many websites being blacklisted from the standard Google Search database. I assume a website would need a pretty big profile to attract the attention of anyone at Google as far as blacklisting goes?
