Eugh. It seems insistent on showing you your previously visited websites whenever you open a new tab now. I've had to use AdBlock to remove that portion of the page as I can't find a way to do it in settings. Except it comes back again for every new tab! AAAGH!

Anyone else know a way to disable it?

i don't use chrome but can't you just configure new tabs to show your homepage?

I can't find a way to do that but I have found a "flag" to set the new tab behaviour to how it was previously.

chrome://flags and find "enable instant extended API" and set it to disabled.

"Apps" has been added to my bookmarks bar, though that's not much use if you don't use it of course.

It's particularly annoying as I was about to role out Chrome over our network, with the tab apps screen being central to that... I need to have a rethink now.

You're right, that fixes a Chrome problem, what an excellent post.

Using your logic when people say they are having an issue with their PC, posting a link to buy a new one would be a contribution.

No however if they have a serious unfixable problem you'd recommend they send it back or get a new one. This is Google the people that decide what they're doing and force it. Chrome has bought a lot of problems lately so it's not a surprise to see that Firefox is back on top. Have you seen a fix in this thread?

Except that Firefox isn't back on top at all. And I've seen mutliple worksarounds..?

Are you on Version 29.0.1547.76 m ?

Yep, Chrome says:

Version 29.0.1547.76 m

My flag says it's set to "Default" at the moment, with no indication of if Default means Enabled or Disabled. I'd have to restart chrome to test it, and I currently have about 40 tabs open so I'll try it later!

Yes, mine was on Default which otherwise means Enabled. So I disabled it.

This seems like the right thread to ask if anyone else is having problems loading web pages (like this one!) in Chrome at the moment? The browser just hangs there, waiting for a page to open. One minute it works, next it's gone on strike for a bit and I have to swap to Firefox, which works fine while Chrome's still hanging in the background.

It's a bit of a puzzle. Everything's working fine apart from Chrome's erratic behaviour.

It's been doing that ^^ for me for about a month now. Haven't a clue what's going on. The whole computer locks up for me though. Then after about 20 seconds everything carries on as if nothing happened.

Thanks, at least I know I'm not the only one with issues. Chrome's been a bit of a pain recently. Nasty design changes; now this. Time for a holiday in Firefox, I think.
