Just done a quick search so don't think it's been posted before:

Turn Your Mobile Phone Into A GPS System.

Take the Power of Google Local with you on your mobile phone! Combining directions, maps, and satellite imagery, Google Local for mobile is a download that lets you find local hangouts and businesses across town or across the country right from your phone.

Detailed directions:
Whether you plan to walk or drive, your route is displayed on the map itself, together with step-by-step directions.

Integrated search results:
Local business locations and contact information appear all in one place, integrated on your map.

Easily movable maps:
Interactive, draggable maps let you zoom in or out, and move in all directions so you can orient yourself visually.

Satellite imagery:
Get a bird`s eye view of your desired location.
Need help getting around town? Simply type or select a starting and destination address, and you can view your route and step-by-step directions directly on the map.

If you want to find, say, the nearest pizza joint, enter "pizza" in the search box, followed by your desired location. Nearby pizza places will appear as markers on your map. Select a marker and you’ll see a text balloon with the business name, address and phone number, with links offering you directions to and from it.
Once your search results appear on the map, use 1-9 on your keypad to move between them. Pressing the same number key twice will display additional options for that search result, including driving directions and the ability to call a business directly.
Google’s interactive maps are draggable, so you can quickly explore the farther reaches of the area you’re looking at. You can zoom in and out, and move left, right, up or down to orient yourself visually.
Want to see what a location looks like from the air? Google Local for mobile provides satellite and aerial images of your old haunts and new favorites. Just select "Map View" or "Satellite" from the application menu to switch between Map and Satellite view.

Anything like this for a pda yet? Although i guess i could just buy that gps module i keep meaning to get :D

Wow just installed this on my 6680 and its really good, the maps load really fast and you can get sattilite view!

Just to add this does actually cost you money in the way of data usage.............
i stopped at this point as it doesnt actually say how much? and with some carriers charging £4 mb it doesnt look worth it?

Does it access the net everytime or is the data stored on the phone(doubtful)

Well i thought u would try it from my pda and yes it uses data everytime it looks so only useful if you have a unlimited package. Plus its very usa based(makes a change) and it cant find a lot of stuff round where i live in fact its found nothingyet but that could be using it wrong

i cant seem to enter in my to destination either? i can enter where i am just not where i wanna go lol:D

I'd be interested in this too. It works great on my w900i and with 480mb of internal memory that should hopefully store british map data!

Without an unlimited data allowance, this tool will cost you big bucks, especially for £3 per MB on O2!!

MDA PRO but i just cant get it to find anything in the uk?

Must be me doing something wrong plus i keep getting poxy annoying midilet messages every few seconds

I have tried with beverley where I live, worked fine, but not the most intuitive userface.

I have to agree to download the us map (even though there already), accept the midilet, reinstall it (even tough there already again, than god for web'n'walk) , select menu, keyboard 2, select, then click in box, then enter town, then accept and it works for me.

Sorry if this teaching you to suck eggs

edit: much quicker to go in via the midlet manager under programs

Im with O2 and pay £14.50 extra for 36MB data allowance per month. I really wish O2 did a webnwalk thing, as Id never go to t-mobile!

why not, u would be saving loads and im on t mobile and had no probs!

D500 is listed as compatible but I'm my mother if I can get it working. It just hangs at 98% on the java installer for 5+ mins and I need to reboot my phone. Could it be the orange software screwing it up?

Are those the security messages? Any idea how to get the phone to trust Google as a legit publisher so it won't prompt you to connect or whatever?
