Google Hangout Push Notifications

I've got an Honor View 20 and the only app I don't get push notifications for it Hangouts. Has anyone else had this or successfully resolved it?

There are no background app restrictions (data/permissions) and the OS push notifications for Hangouts is actually enabled -feels like an app issue.

Note, this has never worked in 6 months of ownership.

Have you muted the chat?

If you press and hold on any of the chats it brings up another menu at the top.

Check in your battery/power settings that the phone is letting it run in the background.
