Have just downloaded the latest version (2.0.0) on my K800i, sat it on my desk for a minute or so, and it's picked up pretty accurately where I am.

This will be great when I'm out and about in a place I don't know, and the directions available via Google Maps Mobile can work from your current location!

Will see what it's like with moving in the car on the way home!

Very impressed so far - awaiting feedback/opinions from others! :)

I have a K800i but dont have a big WAP/Internet access account and costs me a lot to go online....everytime I use this does it go online or what? Not sure how it works. Can you guide me through installing it on my phone? Cheers
Me + mobile internet = n00b ;)

Yes, it does use an internet connection - both to check your location, and to download the maps.

It's not really advised unless you've got unlimited or a large data package.

All it says when i do it is "your current location is temporarily unavailable"?

Go to Menu -> Help -> About/Info, and at the very bottom if it says:

myl: N/A

then your phone isn't supported. If it has a load of numbers, then it can read your location - and it then needs to "check in" to get the location of that mobile tower. Mine did sit there for a few minutes before actually pinpointing my location.

I glanced over this the other day, how does this work properly then? Surely triangulating between base stations should be harder than this or we would have done it years ago :p?

It's only accurate to within several hundred metres, so it's not terribly useful for a lot of positioning applications. This tech has been around for ages - do a google for 'mobile phone tracking'.

I know carriers have been able to do so, i just assumed it was harder than this... Either way even if it just makes the map a little easier, it's not like its going to replace GPS for satnav really is it :p

My Location doesn't work on my p1i. "Not available on this device." Of all the phones that Google Maps Mobile could have worked on, it could have been one with a frickin touchscreen. This program could be so good on a phone with a stylus, being able to drag the screen around etc, but instead I'm stuck with using the number keys like some goofy nokia user :p

It's been around for a couple of years via the O2 Active portal, click on the Streetmap link and you can lookup roughly where you are by which cell you are connected to. It's useful as you can get local cab firm numbers etc.

got this running on WM6 flashed Vario 1
Initially it had me about 8 miles away from where i was. Reset it and it put me within 1500 meters.
Fired up the GPS and configured it to use Com6 and 4800Baud and et voila.
Spooky watching location update when you have google maps in hybrid mode.
Glad im on a decent web & walk package. Hate to use this on some of the others carrier with what they charge for GPRS traffic.

It's nigh on the killer app for mobile devices.
Any one got the traffic updates working, ie what speed the traffic is moving.
