The hint is in the title of the video...

its Google Earth... Not Google Maps

I'm sure the 3D part will make its way to maps and navigation

Who uses Google Earth on a mobile anyway?

So Apple are looking to ditch Google Maps and launch their own.... Just waiting for them to launch something and then sue the other companies e.g. Google for "infringing their ideas"

I thought it was funny how Google demonstrated the new map features on an iPad
