Have I stepped back in time? What about Navigation? The free and up-to-date Turn-by-turn nav supplied courtesy of Google.

What are you on about?

Google has turn-by-turn nav - Yes
You can cache a small region for offline use - Yes
You can use entirely offline with downloaded maps - No

The new update will address the latter.
 
So Apple are looking to ditch Google Maps and launch their own.... Just waiting for them to launch something and then sue the other companies e.g. Google for "infringing their ideas" :p

I thought it was funny how Google demonstrated the new map features on an iPad :p
 
I can only hope that, if Apple do launch a mapping system, Google et al defend their patents vigorously. Given that Google have been doing it for years they should have all the technologies and concepts nailed down :)
