Wasn't sure which forum to put this in but this seems ok, anyone else on the wave beta? Anyone got any cool gadgets or anything I can add to get the best out of it, not many of the people I have invited have signed up yet so it's a little boring.

OcUK wave anyone? :D

Are you in the overclockers wave already?

Search
Code:
with:public ocuk

There's a few in there already. Only just started using it today, so still getting the hang of things!

I think the other thread has turned into the gimme Wave thread and the current OcUK Wave is a bit out of control.

I might go at it with some sheers at some point if I don't have any objections
I will put up a vote!

I think we need a Wave hello area and a conversation point because currently people are just tacking on hello's right at teh bottom of the Wave or at some midpoint for no real reason.

Either that or create a new Wave, but currently beside integration with this forum I don't think there is anything worth discussing in detail enough to create a new Wave that wouldn't be better in an already existing public Wave.

Advice for all newbies:
Read this

I will add some hotlinks to other useful Waves on the main thread at the top

Please keep invites to the other thread.

This one is best left for people wanting to actually talk about it.

Posted in the OcUK wave but it does seem very messy and pointless, what are other people's impressions of wave? It seems a little meh to me at the moment, I mean it just seems like better email, the problem being that the person you're waving needs to have wave too which will obviously take a while to filter down to ISPs etc...

I spent some time last night cleaning the Wave up, so its more readable now!

There is a lot of hype surrounding Wave, it is great, but it isn't the secret to ever lasting life or even the new Internet.

It is definitely a new way for people to communicate, bringing a few different methods into one point (your net identity). It doesn't mean you will just use Wave and never log into Facebook, Twitter, Bloggs and Forums all together, but it does allow you a central place to keep track of what your saying/doing.
Facebook, Forums and even Twitter offer more content when you are within there sites.

(Think of it as a Google reader for your communications)

So if we imagine this forum supporting GoogleGears or having its own Federated server then you could post a conversation here in this thread and it would appear in your Wave.
You could then go back and carry on this conversation as and when you choose.
You can add images, text, maps, links etc all the things you want to add.
You wouldn't however be able to start a new thread without logging onto the site first (although you could log in through an iFrame in wave)

Now part of the problem of allowing a GoogleGear onto your site, is that you lose control over the site. Anyone can edit stuff and do what they want with it. So in OcUK's case they simply wouldn't allow this.
Why well because this forum keeps a lot of control over what should and shouldn't be on it. Google Wave at the moment at least just doesn't allow people to control what is being said.

What they could do though is own a federated Wave server and then administrate the OcUK Waves that were on that server.
Again though they are pretty open by definition, so it allows for a lot more in the way of editing and contribution.

Currently there is no way to set-up a super admin and moderator for a wave. This is definitely something they will have to introduce later (the ability to lock and choose types of content and kick/ban users from Waves).

Nice work on pruning the OCUK wave. Much better than it was and might grow into something useful :D

HUGE APPOLOGY!

I accidently deleted the map gadget whilst editing it last night.

This highlighted one huge issue at present. There is no undo button implemented in Waves at present.

I am very sorry, but if you could put your marker back on the new map again

Still waiting for the invites I sent out to be sent. So I've not had a chance to use it, although I just found the OcUk wave. What happens if someone sends an email to your googlewave account? Where does it go? Hmm just found out, got a reply message saying its undeliverable...
