Google (youTube) to buy Twitch

Very bad imo, music will be clamped down on a lot, may even remove the sub button or stop streamers linking donation buttons to paypal. They could even just be buying it to remove it as it destroys their own live streaming platform.

Really bad news, I dont really see how Youtube can hope to make it a success... part of the appeal of watching Twitch is the freeform approach where the streamers have very few constraints. It's going to be heavily regulated and suck.

Oh well in it's ashes a new champion will rise.

Will probably require real names and google+ before commenting. And no music to be played due to copyright.

Bad written all over it, they pretty much just bought out the competition.. it'll be interesting to see what they do with it, given twitch's popularity had a lot to do with it not being part of google :P
If you happen to upload to YT you'll be well aware the sort of crap hoops gaming related channels are having to jump as it is

In before the google + integration and app

p.s. admitidly the further you look into it the clearer it becomes they simply did not have the infastructure (tech) to match their growing popularity, and I know the likes of ms were also in the queue for it, but its still a bit disapointing they couldn't find a way to stay independant

Very bad. As much as I like Google's products you just know that they'll absolutely wreck it like they did with Youtube when they integrated it into Google+. To this day, I still can't comment on Youtube videos despite following all their instructions about linking accounts. This means I can't answer questions posted on my monetized channel. Do they give a ****? No they don't!

as with anything once it gets popular someone will buy it.

youtube is and has been trying to get streaming more popular for a while now twitch has its own large audience branding in place. so win win for google.

BAD NEWS.

I think Twitch would be merged into Youtube, but maybe the Twitch brand is worth more than that?

As already said, I refuse to switch my Youtube profile to a G+ account so guess I will not be able to use Twitch either.

I would like to think it would mean competition but it has not worked out like that regarding Youtube so who knows.

They still let you upload of course as they make money from those :) Odd that.

Google have been on a downward slope for a while.

Bad move IMO... wasn't impressed when I had to integrate Youtube with G+.

Google really need to give up with their whole G+ thing

NOT WANT. Already sick of having G+ shoved down my throat evertime I try and login to YouTube with my original account. I use Twitch quite a lot to view Minecraft Feed The Beast developer vids.

Last I heard this is still only rumoured. There's a bit issue with it over in the States as it's removing competitiveness, so it might not get a ruling for it to go ahead if it is opposed.

Aye something to do with it being the number 1 company in its respective field going for another number 1 in their field, it needs to be investigated before it can go through.

Some benefit perhaps for streamers in terms of storage space, automatically stored on Google's servers. I would imagine it would be adsorbed as a service into YouTube so a seamless link there would be beneficial if videos could be edited in place without having to re-upload. Hope if it is adsorbed rather than continues as a separate service that the existing integration with other software isn't broken.
