is 'googlemail' still 'gmail' in the us of a? and if so, do new invites from a us of a based account still get a 'gmail' address, rather than 'googlemail' address...? if so, can i be majorly cheeky and and ask anyone who has a spare invite from a us based account to please invite me, albeit to my googlemail account...? :p

[email protected]

thanks.

he he, i was just going to say thanks, but thats still offering me a googlemail one! cheers though!

I think it recognises the ip address from the person signing up as being in the UK so it gives you a UK addy ie. googlemail.com. what you need to do is use a proxy when you get the invite so it thinks you are in a different country to the UK.

tried it through a proxy based in the us of a, but it still forces it to a googlemail address

I *think* this is because of that lawsuit they had. 'gmail' was already registered by another company who took them to court. I have a gmail account as I signed up a looong time ago. When I invited my sister, she got a googlemail account. I think they only do googlemail now.

It doesn't work that way. If I invite you from my gmail account and you sign up and tell it you're from the UK it'll give you a googlemail account. I can set an account up for you myself then give you the UN and pass which you could then change. I've done it for about a half dozen members of this forum so far.

Let me know.

nice one, i havent had chance to check my email yet (at work), but thank you very much for your help! :)

I registered a couple of googlemail accounts a few months back and I found that email sent to me using the gmail.com extension rather than googlemail.com gets to my inbox just fine.

But when you register with it, he'll still get a googlemail account as google resolves his IP to being UK based.

I think thats how it works anywho

What, using an image? Yeah, I do it as it decreases the likelihood that a robot will harvest my name for spamming purposes. It's easier to read that that bill yt heimp aler <at> gm ail <do t> c om gibberish you sometimes see to disguise email addresses. I dig.
