Gordon Brown sticks finger up to tax rebels!

But he hasn't given them the middle finger has he, along with the Chancellor he has just announced that a compensation package will be introduced to assist people who are worse off as a result of the abolition of the 10p tax band.

Yes but that picture bears no relation to the announcement this lunchtime does it.

If he was giving the tax rebels the finger then surely there would have been no concession?

brown sticks finger up to tax rebels.. gotta love that picture of brown.

do you not think that means the content is on about the picture? otherwise i would have linked directly to the actual article!

Me and my parter are both in work, no kids and are homeowners. We are entitled to absolutely bugger all help in the way of tax credits or anything else. Id be very interested to see if this so called "help" applies to people who arent married and dont have kids... im betting it doesnt ( as usual ).

I honestly don't know but from what I have heard, it is single people with no children or the 60 - 64 age bracket that has been hit.

Don't quote me though!

Only to the people who know about it, 6 month from now no one will remember it.

You have to love the way they aren't specifying details of the package until after the local elections and the commons vote... What's the betting the actual compensation package will be a complete waste of time...

The Tories are just as bad, Question time last week, Caroline Spelman MP was berating Labour and the abolition of the 10p tax band, she also voted against the abolition of the 10p tax band.

Then she was asked whether the Tories would re introduce the 10p tax band, queue the usual non committal answers, even refusing to answer yes or no when directly asked to do so by David Dimbleby.

And they wonder why voters are turning away.

The problem is the conservatives dont actually know how much money there is in the pot. If they promised to bring it back it would simply provoke the traditional 'unfunded tax cuts' rhetoric from labour! They cant win.

Exactly! And how will this 'package' be funded....through taxation....

Given how useless Labour have been with efficient tax delivery I wouldn't be surprised if the combination of the abolition of the 10p band + the compensation package actually work out more expensive to the higher earners anyway!

Agree with all of that, the modern professional politician is about as appealing as a full frontal labotomy. No passion, no beliefs and the only policy being to stay in a job as long as possible!

Back on topic it is very amusing that Brown and his puppet Darling have given no details of this compensation package and just made some airy fairy statements the only thing I would have put any credence in was a promise that nobody would be left out of pocket by this decision which was only noticeable by it's absence!

It will cost a fortune in consultation and time as the usual way things go then at the last minute will be replaced by something they could have done in the first place, either that or it will just fail to give any bennefit to anyone it was supposed to.
