GordyR's Beginners Guide to Bodybuilding

Cheers :)

Actually I quite like Good mornings and will do them quite often but my lower back is usually so hammered from the deadlifts and rows.

The exercise I struggle with is stiff-legged deadlifts, I just struggle to get any feel in my hamstrings at all while I'm doing them and my low back just burns like a muther' but next day my hamstrings are killing me, so they must be working! Just find it hard to get motivated with them like I do other exercises.

you bison?

My latest pic, thought I'd post it on here. Got a bit more fat to lose around mid section then I'm going to start a clean bulk over the winter.

whats your current lifts for squat/bench/DL?

Nothing too impressive:

Bench - 60kg for 3 sets
Squat - 95kg for 3 sets
Dead - 120kg for 2 sets

I have been on a cut since April when I started BB'ing, so haven't really had the chance to focus on building muscle. That said, I have built some even on a cut and my lifts have progressed over the months. Heres what I looked like in April this year for comparison:

That's excellent progress Duradrum, you must be really pleased with how you look now. Keep it up! :)

What weight are you at now?

Pretty good stuff that Duradrum, I need to start working harder, I would'nt mind seeing results like that in 6 months, How tall are you btw.

I am. I take it you seen my training journal with the pics? :)

Yes, looks very interesting. Think it would take me a few years before I try something like that. I think I somehow managed to accidently view your profile, then realised I knew the sig from this forum :p

Feel free to give quality advice in my thread :) Raza359 btw!

Will do mate :) Your username doesn't ring a bell, are you a new member on there?

Yeah I use the same sig in all the forums I use. Haven't been on that site for about 6-7 weeks until the other day as I had an accident and haven't been able to train, hoping to get back into it this weekend.

Do you have a link to this journal please
Yeah no worries :) beware it's almost 20 pages long though and it's a mix of HST training and my own. Mainly because the HST routine is so unflexable, it's impossible to make it work around your own time table. So I could only do it when I knew I wasn't working away for the next month or so.

I've only read the first couple of pages, but I've bookmarked it as it is a very good read. I'd bet S7yl3s would love a read at that as well. Brilliant progress, it really inspires me and all natural too. :)

edit: Just finished reading it, what happened, did you get hit by a car? I hope it hasn't affected you in the long term. And during the last two months have you lost much muscle mass? :)

The journals can help with motivation no doubt about it. Just wanting to keep it upto date and keep it going can get you to go to the gym that one lazy afternoon when the football is on and your mates are down the pub. Even if it's just that one time and you only go and do a quick 30 minutes before going watching the footy then it's paid off.

There are some really good journo's on that site, pretty much all of the guys on there are naturals and the couple who aren't are open about taking steroids. To be honest the guys who are using steds aren't as advanced as the naturals anyway.

Some good, sound advice on there too, that's why I like it. All super friendly, no ego's and no BS just plain truth and what works :)

As for the accident, it's not quite as dramatic as you might imagine, the car wasn't travelling fast. My own fault really, been out all day and night and apparently we'd drank quite a bit of Absynth  I've been in the road and a car hit me but as I didn't see or expect it I've been thrown awkwardly and landed hard on my back :(

Yeah I've lost a bit of muscle, I've gained some bodyfat too but I'm always suprised how quickly it comes back. I really love the first month of a comeback.... the gains are amazing :D

Rippetoe's Starting Strength - Probably the best workout routine for beginners. :)
That's down to personal opinion. I just can't get my head around how people can say a total beginner should be working out with weights so heavy he can only do between 5-2 reps, just doesn't make sense to me

When you first start weight training the gains will come thick and fast as long as you follow the very basics i.e. lift weights, eat well, sleep well.

So why tell a beginner to use a weight he'll struggle with and I 100% guarantee he'll use poor form because of that. I don't think the weight is all that important right at the beginning, form and getting comfortable with handling the weights and performing the exercises is a 1000 times more important and will benefit more in the long run.

That's why you're supposed to start lifting at 60% - 75% of your 5 rep max, when it starts to feel to heavy, drop the weight and work your way back up and hopefully the weight that gave you trouble is fairly easy. And of course form is important, but I don't see the problem with starting this workout after you have your form down.

:) Yeah definitely agree with that, I've been browsing it again today, a lot better than other forums I've seen. Like the forums at bodybuilding.com, full of trolls and made up stuff.

Did you leave a dent? ;) Good to see you've recovered from it, there's nothing worse than being hit with something and not knowing it was coming, especially a big piece of metal weighing a ton. :p

Muscle memory is great. :D

Hey...

Yeah, joined that forum around June. Went through some of the journals to pick up information for my routine. Really need to get the diet sorted firstly. From next Wednesday I'm back in the gym so may stick to my old routine or find a better one.

3/4 day split or 3 full body workouts...hmmm

Got the link down and bookmarked to this, very much looking forward to that read. I will start this tomorrow when my eyes are more than 4% open. Time to hit the sack.
