Still its a good step in the right direction, wonder if it supports hdmi 2.1 ports

It would have to to support 4k@144hz, no?

HDMI YES(2ea)
HDMI (Max. Resolution at Hz) 3840 x 2160 @ 60Hz
DisplayPort YES (1ea)
DP Version 1.4
DP (Max. Resolution at Hz) 3840 x 2160 10bit @ 95Hz

Featuring VESA Display Stream Compression (DSC) Technology, 27GN950 supports 4K hi-resolution, 144Hz hi-speed refresh rate with 1ms (GtG) response time, HDR and G-SYNC® Compatible as well as covering 10bit colour by a single DisplayPort connection, and reducing visual loss.

They need to get 4K 144Hz @ 32" released ASAP! 27" is just too damn small for 4K. Have tried to get on with it, but after the experience of 32", I just can't do it. Looks like there are a couple of models due early next year, but it's taken far too long. At least the Viewsonic XG320U will have HDMI 2.1 for those that want it, and not be a million miles off the price of this LG, so personally, I'd wait. The extra size alone is worth it.

I mean for general desktop uses not gaming. If the text on a 27” screen at 3840*2160 is too small how do 27” iMac users cope. Scaling??

As above, OSX scales far better than Windows. Some apps look downright awful at anything other than 100%, and 27" is just too small for that @ 4K. Could be argued that 32" is also in some cases, but it's far more usable.
