Now i'm lying here sweating and unable to sleep, my weekend is ruined because some selfish 'i'm proud of never having a day off' ******* **** decided to go into work Friday with a bad cold/flu.

No-one cares about your pathetic attempts at making a good impression. Feel a bit worse than the normal runny nose? DON'T GO IN WE DON'T WANT YOU THERE.:mad:

I feel for you Tom. I've been on the receiving end of this idiotic behaviour myself and it's not a lot of fun.

Anyone who thinks they're going to get brownie points for dragging themselves into work while they're ill should be sacked on the spot - irresponsible, brown-nosing plebs.

99% of the time I'd be in agreeance with the OP, but at my old job they didn't pay sick pay, so if I was off, I lose a days pay. Completely backwards. I became one of those people sat in the tube sneezing everywhere. I hate those people.

im off work right now. back in sunday night though just had a week on the club, first time in a while. Rather enjoyed it.....

.... i didnt enjoy spending most of my time with my head in the toilet though :/

sick days are so much better when your not actually sick =(

Many work places would frown at you for being off with a cold, sure its a pain to get it but it's hardly a big deal.

It's just a cold (not that I can speak from experience really as I haven't really had one since I was a kid, even then I never had any time off school :().

If it was flu then I can understand - but a cold isn't really a big deal.

I would agree with the OP for things like stomach bugs but afaik people are contagious before colds actually show any symptoms. I would also be surprised if being exposed on a Friday would give you a cold by today unless your immune system was already very low. Not that I am a doctor so feel free to ignore :-)

I'm sure you haven't caught a cold within 24 hours of someone passing it to you. You could also have picked it up anywhere such as public transport, supermarket, family member etc etc.

Unless you physically can't get out of bed then you go to work in my book. We need to toughen up as a work force.

You probably caught it from someone you know. :p Whining won't help so takes some pills and go back to bed with a hot drink.

nah, i go in if i have a bit of a cold, but i had a stomach bug all last week, quite literally slept in my toilet one night i was so ill.

i did go into work, lasted 30 mins before i got told to go home!

I guess you'll be taking at least Monday off OP as the cold will still be in your system. Better take Tuesday just to be sure.

Do people really take time off for a cold?

I would wager that a severe cold would reduce your efficiency and subsequently that of your colleagues if they caught it, by more than the time lost by you not being there for a day or two.

This obviously depends on how close you are working to other people etc.
