Got a new car, what to mod!?

Nothing much you can do with the engine. A panel filter is about all that is worth doing :p

As mentioned, improve the handling a bit with some decent sport springs would be an idea.

lol loving that engine mod.

Thanks for the info guys and those of you that gave me some thoughtful responses - much appreciated and has provided a good insight for a beginner!

I guess the consensus seems to be leave the engine alone and just go for improvements to the handling etc - seems like a good plan will look into it.

Seems some of you have got the wrong idea lol - not looking for a 'Pimp my ride' job, or looking to stick a couple of turbos in it or a new lump! Just after advice on whether there is anything worth doing to a car thats not overly expensive as i have no idea.

The Air filter kit you can buy etc - what does it do....if it improves the car in anyway for that price, surely its worth doing. I guess its better than the standard air filter that comes with the car and thus better for the car?

Just happy i've got a decent car and can do a bit of work on it - no plans to do anything technical myself however but would like to just spend some money and a bit of time on it!

(and yes a 1.6 focus is a nice car for me)

What makes you say the 1.8 is the best ?

I don't think the gap between 1.8 and 2.0 is that great in terms of performance. The 2.0 is very thirsty (this is my second Focus 2.0) and I had 2x 1.6 Focus' before that. The 1.6 lost puff once it hit 65-70mph. Out of the 3, I think the 1.8 is the best balance between power and economy which makes it my preferred engine.

I find some people's opinions completely bizarre.

Because my opinion differs to yours? Have you driven Focus' with all 3 engines to make an objective comparison?

you don't care about the safe??

I heard someone modify by himself and get......don't want to talk about it here :(

What a bizarre post...

Oh, and that car claims uk website in your sig is terrible.. Possibly one of the most poorly written and hard to understand sites I have ever come across!

1.8 feels barely any faster than the 1.6 but offers similar fuel consumption to the 2.0. The 2.0 has more or less the same fuel consumption but is more powerful. Makes the 1.8 a bit pointless really.

You didn't answer my question, have you driven all 3?

They are all reasonably similar but the 2.0 is by far the thirstiest of all 3 engines and offers very little in terms of performance. There is a difference in real terms (not just looking at stats online) and I would certainly prefer the 1.8 if I had the choice. To me, the 1.8 is the perfect balance.

For me;

Some ST wheels, eibach lowering springs, and an exhaust (meh so am still a bit of a chav! :p) and some of the ST styling bits the fog lights are clear and so on.

A friend had one and added some ST bits, was rather nice.

I have driven a 1.6 Focus and owned a heavier 2.0 Mondeo.

No contest, frankly, and the fuel consumption was hardly bad.
