Personally I'd get a bigger one.... 4Tb isn't the best price to capacity and a bigger drive is more future proof. At least 6Tb?

cheers guys ill have a think over my choices :)

is there any advantage to a 3.5 inch one v a 2.5 inch?

2.5 doesn't require external power but likely to be a little slower (basically laptop hard drive as opposed to desktop). If its just for backup, 3.5 probably most robust and a bit quicker?

A 2.5" drive will be SMR if it's over 2TB, which means it will have an extremely slow write speed. A 3.5" drive will be faster and generally more reliable.
