Well what a noobie mistake to make!

I was sitting at some lights this weekend and saw that they turned green and proceeded to move off, only to see at the last mintue that the dude in front didnt. Bam! I tagged his ass!

The strangest thing was that i did no visible damage to my car apart from cracking my number plate. The only damage that I saw on his car was a a small implant dent where the screw head that holds my number plate impressioned his rear.

Joy!

The most annoying thing was he wanted my insurance details and the like and didn't want to settle with me giving a few pence of a ding dude to fill and spray.

Should i bother calling my insurance company and just wait to see if he bothers to put a call in and wait for a letter from mine?

Grrr! Im so angry at myself!

In his position I think it is fair to say that anybody would have wanted your details. The key thing now is to phone him and see if you can persuade him to get a quote for a repair and give you the option to pay it rather than ruin your no claims discount.

If he is reasonable he shouldn't have a problem with this.

I'd tell your insurance. It's likely he is going to. Some people are just really anal and have to play everything by the rules. He would be a fool though for such a minor repair because its going to cost him in premiums when he comes to renew.

What car was it that you hit by the way?

I did this. I did some minor damage to the other car but he insisted on not going through insurance. I got a letter 9 days later from one of his passengers solicitors saying she was suffering from whiplash, muscle spasms and limited shoulder movement. In my case it was best for me to let my insurance know ASAP.

Give him a ring and see what he says first. If its only minor damage like you say then surely its best for both parties to sort it out without insurance.

I do think it's a pain in the backside getting quotes for someone else's mistakes.

Why should they take time to phone around or get their car to a garage?

You could have twisted the entire chassis. :p

They likely want to go through insurance to get a large whiplash payout.

Now that they've had another car tap into the rear of their car, they've probably thought "thank you, God", and probably gone home, whacked the rear bumper a little harder, breaking it, then gone to the doctor's complaining of a pain in the neck, called the insurance company to notify them of the accident and the doctor's report, and then bam, couple of months later a cheque for a few thousand will drop through the door.

Good job i took aload of photos then! If a whiplash claim comes in I am going to say that is car rolled back from the lights into mine! There was no witness present apart from my mrs in my car.

So you are going to lie. That makes you as bad as him if he does put a whiplash clam in. If it happens and you do lie just hope no one else saw and no cctv or you could be looking at a big fall.

You did bump into him, which requires him to repair his car. He will get this money through your insurance company and as such your insurance premium will go up next year.

Live with it, and learn from your mistake.

guy i did this too claimed for whiplash , bad back and loss of earnings.

its a good job i dont need a car at uni because im certainly not getting sensible quotes for a while :p

Done it myself, watcing a roundabout, nothing coming for ages, saw they guy infront move. WHACK, he stopped as he didntthink his BMW 1 series would get out in time.... "what the **** you moron" was my reply. He never got back in touch for any money though Luckily for me...

as he felt a right tit, 3 people all got out and told him he was a ****, and could have gotten the titanic out in time!!

Best bit was, his bumper was probably worth more than my car! and i didnt damage anything other than my number plate.

So let me get this straight? He didn't go at the roundabout when he had a chance and so you drove into him?

He may have dithered but YOU were at fault by driving into a stationary vehicle. Pay attention to where you are going next time, not what is coming round the roundabout.

Well, there was an answer phone message for me today so he has spoken to his insuance co and they have spoken to mine, so i am going to have to tell them what happened. We shall see what he is saying then.

Thank god for a protected ncb (checked my documents)

*warning* incoming whiplash claim *warning*

My mum did that, me and my sister were going to school and some spoon rammed us on a roundabout. Didn't hurt us at all or damage the cars. But she's very good at writing letters. We got 2.2k each and mine's still in a high interest account and I plan to leave it there for many years to come :p

You wont get much sympathy here with that post. There are plenty of easy ways of making money without jumping on the insurance rip off bandwagon.
