On the road....
I'm a bit ****ed off at myself tonight. :( - I got flashed by a Revenue Generator, opps! I mean Speed camera on the A556 between Manchester & Knutsford, the posted limit is 50MPH, unfortunately the limit for HGV's is 40MPH & numb nuts here was doing approx 47MPH.... :( What really narks me is I know damn well about that stretch of road, its notorious for us truckers...

I let my concentration lapse my lame excuse is that I forgot to set my cruise control to 40 rather than 50 which I use a lot to keep my speed in check and I'm sure I'll now have to pay up (£60 I'm guessing?) and have points on my licence again. Grrr! :(

I can't complain too much in all honesty it was entirely my fault for a momentary lapse, until tonight my licence has been clean for a fair few years, not bad for somebody who lives on the roads......

Anybody else done a similar thing?:o

I had no idea they could tell what type of vehicle was on the road. Never mind, you can hope for a technical malfunction!

Usually pressure sensors in the road, I was pulling 28tons of cider at the time & now hate the stuff more than I did previously! :o :D

It's shame you didn't stop off in Somerset beforehand, I'm sure myself and a few mates would have made good use of 28tons of cider, and then you may have not set the pressure sensor off! We would be taking a silver bullet... ;)

Joking aside, 40mph does seem pretty low, you may not have to take the points if you get given the option of going on a speed course... I'm just glad I've so far managed to avoid gettnig caught (touch wood...)

HGV speed limits are one of those wonderfully retarded laws where if you obey them, you cause an obstruction, if you don't, you get punished.

For the want of a practical, evidence based road safety policy :(

You might be lucky. I've been flashed twice and not heard anything back. Perhaps do some googling to see if the camera has a history of this etc?

Could just be the flash and not the camera...

sure you could argue it in court, string along that you need a clean license for work etc etc get your boss to write a cover letter then they might let you off with a slightly larger fine or a course thingy bob

Thought Manchester (district?) speed allowance was 10% plus 10% so 48 in a 40? This may only be for mobile lazer based ones though?

Unlucky though fella.

How does this help?

Does a letter have to get to you in a certain amount of time before it becomes void or something?
yes, there was a case a few weeks ago where it was ruled that the fine was void because they hadn't made provision for it to arrive on time

afaik it's 10%+2 same as the discretionary everywhere else it's used. Unfortunately this is cheshire, and they tend to be a bit harsher, fingers crossed the camera wasn't live. Not a million miles from how I got caught last year, was driving into blackpool down the big dual carriageway bit thinking it was 40, so went through the camera checking that the needle was bang on 40 and realised it was a 30 when it flashed :(

I find it highly unlikely they'd put a pressure sensor in, nearly all speed cameras etc. use induction loops, which are then very difficult to tell the size/weight of the vehicle.

Why is the HGV limit lower than the posted 50 anyway, I thought this only applied to NSL?

2 weeks isn't it?

After today Staffordshire Police can't send me anything :D was convinced i'd been done by a Scamera Van in Cannock!

ive always wondered how you would proove it, surely you could just lie because no one would know.

i doubt they are sent by special delivery so you wont be signing anything?

I've no idea but are letters not stamped with the date as they pass through a sorting office? Say you broke to speed on the 2nd November and the envelope has a stamp for the 18th or is dated the 17th then it's a start?
