Got heart set on Golf TDI, is anything I need know?

I have to say the MK6 Golf TDi I hired the other week was a very impressive car. Quiet like an S class and a really supple ride. Slow, yes, but good family car and built to a standard most try to copy but fail.

The golf 130 tdi's are the one to go for. Please don't be put off by what people say here about mileage and diesels,as there are lots of people who are biased towards any engine, aslong as its petrol, when in most cases, especially with the latest models, the diesels the one to go for, regardless of mpg.

Diesels hate short trips, it causes them to "Coke" up and that in itself is expensive to sort out, hence one of the major reasons people are saying "go for the petrol", plus those PD engines are very unrefined.

OP, with your mileage you are better off with a petrol, a diesel loves to get hot and thats how they run best, they hate short trips (especially the older engines) and this will drop your fuel economy a fair bit.
Just avoid the smaller vw engines, makes the car a bit gutless :(

I've got a Mk4 TDI 130, its getting old but its nippy enough to be enjoyable and has been reliable other than a wheel bearing going at about 45,000 miles and both window mechanisms failing which is easy enough to fix but a pain. Cheap to run and insure.

I've always previously changed cars every 12-18 months but I've had this one for about 7.5 years now.....
