AMD 4000+ Clawhammer (bad ocer)
3850 512 OC BRANDED
480W PSU butterfly
GIGABYTE GA K8NXPSLI
2gig corsair pc 3200

I think my CPU is bottlenecking me quite bad so would i be correct in assuming this, would i also better a lot more using 1024x768 instead of 1280x1024

What cpu is socket 939 thats cheap that i can buy? I dont want to spend too much obviously so a budget of around £100

You should be able to get an X2 4800+ for about that.

It might also be worth considering upping the budget a bit and getting a cheapish P35 mobo, an E2180 or similarly-well overclocking C2D, and 2 GiB cheap PC2-6400.

Agreed, X2 4800+ is the best you can get on S939. For £150 you could move the a more future proof system - invest in a P35 mobo which will take the new 45nm Quads but get a core2duo for now and clock it. As above, you'd need some DDR2 though but it is only £30 for 2x1Gb GeiL ULL PC6400 which is perfect for overclocking.

Something like an Abit IP35 is a good investment at £80 imo.

so you guys think its worth investing in a future proof system ie p35? also will the 3850 still be an OK AVERAGE card if im going to do this?

ideally if i could get a VERY CHEAP 3800 i would as having a 3800 overclocked would be better than my current 4000+ correct, especially in cod4 as i hear having 2 cores really helps

I get between 80-230fps and i would rather have 125 stable but i think its dropping to 80 because of my CPU!

In what game? Frame rates that high don't really need much attention unless you're some sort of übergamer with god-like reflexes and a 200 Hz-refresh screen. ;)

Last summer I got a brand new opty 185 for £150,, now thats the fastest cpu you can get for a s939. I have a sapphire 3870 on order, and with a bit of luck my system will last another year, before Im forced todo a complete new build. my system will be 4yrs old if it lasts another year, not bad hey guys?

Edit: will all the lasest top games will work with xp for another year, cos I dont want to put vista on cos then games will stuggle cos only got 2gb of mem, and to run all the latest games well on vista, you need 4gb of mem.. Plus my system is rubbish if I fill all my mem slots up.

Just noticed you have the same motherboard as me, and yeah I had a [email protected], before I got the opty 185, it was like upgrading my graphics card when I got the opty 185, the latest games ran loads faster.. It was a brill upgrade.

Stick the mobo,CPU and ram on a well known auction site. Use the proceeds as well the 75 quid to buy a 2180/2220, 2GB of 6400 Ram and a DS3-L. 3Ghz+ C2D setup... Done!
