As it was my Birthday tuesday and I didn't know what the gf could get me I told her I wanted a guitar :D

After some research (youtube)

I've got a Yamaha F310 its the cheapest Yamaha Acoustic they do but sounds great.

Got it in a kit so get bag, stand, electronic tuner, book/dvd etc

Cost £105 or £79 on its own

I'll get pics up later once I get in from work

Enjoy it dude - you'll hit many a wall you think you can't pass, and one day, you pass it. :)

There's nothing better than kicking back and playing an acoustic for a few hours. I've been guitarless for a year now, and can't wait to get another when I am back in England.

Yup, best piece of advice is "stick with it".

Learn a wide variety of chords and you can do some beautiful sounding chord jams using an acoustic. To begin with, you won't believe the pain as your fingertips become red and inflamed. Stick with it and the callouses will form. It's all about learning technique after that.

I just got my first guitar about 4 weeks ago and i really do have to agree that your fingers are going to hurt for the first week or so depending on how much you play of course. It got so bad for me i had to just leave it for a few days as my fingers started to get blisters on them :(.

My flatmate has been helping me learn and been reading a few things on line at first i thought that this is way too hard and will take me ages to learn anything but if you stick at it you get there in the end :). I can play a very limited amount of little jingles but i enjoy it :p

Cheers for the support guys :)

Sorry not got any pics up dam camera on my phone is broke :(

found this cool site www.vguitarlessons.com

I purchased the Wonderwall tutorial just burning it to dvd as we speak only took me about 2 hours to tune my guitar lol

ANother vote for Justin Sandercoe - he's good at explaining how to play songs easily yet still sound recognisable.

I'd also recommend checking out the GooTube videos for a guy called ThreeChordGuitar...

His videos are a bit more advanced than Justin Sandercoe's but they're definitely worth watching. I've also got a shed load of Lick Library videos too.

I recommend learning the songs you like first (the basic stuff of course,) because the very first stage of learning the guitar is the hardest IMO. Those beginner books are a waste of time... well they where for me. It was just boring and hard to understand.

I first started learning easy chords with Bon jovi music (I was really into them when I was younger.) It helped me get used to rhythm and simple chord changes ('Dead or alive' is a great song for a beginner as you learn basic chords and it really helps rhythm.)

But anyway, good luck and try to enjoy it as much as possible. Dont get too down hearted when you cant do something or feel its too hard, you will get there :) ...and before long you'll find it easier to learn new stuff as your hands get used to the fret-board and you train your ear to the sounds.

Lick Library stuff pretty decent to use, i used them a lot over past few months learnt a few satriani songs, learning steve vai one atm but these all using electric guitar mind, but worth a look.

Not had chance to put the new strings onyet but will after work

Cheers for the input guys

Zaf,

I've just started learning too and played wonderwall yesterday! I was fiddling about and I stumbled on the right chord progressions for it so I just launched out on it !! hehe

Have you left your guitar unstringed?

Ive always been told not to do this, by my dad and a mate, as the neck could deform.

And when i change strings i was told to change them one by one to save the same thing happening?

Can anyone confirm?

Yeah, I've heard the same thing from some people who've played for a very long time... without tension from the strings the neck can deform over time. As such I do restring one string at a time, but I'm not sure if it's really that big a deal or not... but I'd rather not risk it as it's no hassle to do it this way.

I don't say Beetlejuice 3 times in a row either.

Thanks for this. That is a great site..

No problem justin and the guys from next level guitar.com are the best in my opinion. Although next level charges, youll find a lot of the stuff free on youtube... check out david taube.

What about Canndyman 5 times?
