Installed my Gigabyte GTX460 Super OC today and what a difference !

People with older systems, just to let you know that if you can only afford a graphics card upgrade atm, then don't despair because there's still some life in your aging rig :) Mine's about 6 years old and was previously running an X1900XTX, but new games became almost unplayable.

I've only tried 2 games so far (Blur and NFSHP), before they would barely run at lowest settings, but now i can play them on mid to high settings at very reasonable fsp.

I look forward to another nice boost when i upgrade the cpu, mb and ram next year :)

Ordered the SOC as well. It's currently sitting in a collection depot due to the weather, but screw that - I'm going to collect it tomorrow :D

I'm just in the process of finding the max overclock on stock voltages, i'm at 900MHz gpu so far and it still seems to be fine  not that it's going to help my fps until i get a new cpu etc, but i couldn't resist :D

Ok i finished frying it with Furmark Xtreme burning mode lol, here's my results on stock volts.

GPU clock topped out at 911MHz
Mem clock topped out at 1135MHz
Final stable GPU 900MHz / MEM 1125MHz (temps 67c top)

not bad at all

I also upgraded from x1950pro to Evga Gtx 460 768Mb Super Overclocked edition and the difference is mind blowing. Can pretty much run everything maxed out.

Amazing performance for the price.

hey would 2 of these Gigabyte GTX460 Super OC or MSI GeForce GTX 460 HAWK give me better performance than a gtx 480 or a 5870 vapor-x oc ???? building a first ever build pc any input lads ? to many cards to choose from

Spoiler: I don't play any recent FPS cos they are all ****, skip to next post.

I have quite a reasonably beefy CPU/RAM/Motherboad.

i7 oc, plenty of RAM, nice Gigabyte mainboard.

I use a single 460 GTX for WoW & SC2 @ 1920x1200 as a replacement for my 9800 SLI. I raid WoW at a higher level than most, and have done so for a while. The 460 is great, if you toggle dx11 render path.

install msi afterburner and see what gpu usage your getting in games , 'i'd be suprised if your getting anywhere near 70%

you should be able to force 32X aa on shift btw without any fps hit or not much of one

my GTC460 easily pulls 60fps with all the ingame settings maxed out @ 1920x1080 with 16x AF and 32x AA looks awesome to

Ok but what about that old 400W Generic Psu that a lot of folks have in their old systems, not up to powering that 460GTX, so also a psu upgrade possible as well.:(

See you have a decent psu and I'm glad you are enjoying your new found gaming and that is a cracking upgrade for you. Enjoy.:D

Think a 450 watt OCZ PSU will be enough for a gtx460? Don't wanna have to upgrade that aswell because getting a new case as well.

Won't be overclocking, Q6600 at stock as well. Minimum wattage is 450 do hopefully...

whats this some random powe usage fact?

seems to just come from nowhere are ati paying you?

Keh??

The HD6850 1GB consumes around 35W to 50W less than a GTX460 1GB according to Anandtech and XBit labs. AFAIK,the 450W OCZ PSU mentioned by MobyDick was released in 2005.

I have recently bought the GTX460 OC 1GB DDR5 version of the same graphics card as an upgrade to my Palit GeForce 9600GT 512K. Not really overclocked it yet but I will bare in mind the figures above for when I start to fettle.

BF2 now cranked to high graphics mode along with COD4 without any lag - the only lag is my eyes connecting with brain to take in all the additional detail :)
