Awesome little car. i know i need to be careful in it though. really can feel the power from the rear of the car.

Love it to bits :D

Welcome to to mid rear club, just be careful in the comming months. Make sure you have some decent rubber on the thing too! :)

apparently the rev one is more fun ;)

lol

going to get a oil and filter change tommorow. anything else i should get checked whilst shes in??

what oil do you recomend mike? you must be pretty good on EVERYTHING regarding the mr2 lol

For oil just use what it says on the engine lid. 10w-40?

Get some decent tyres on the rear while you are at it if it doesnt have them.

White looks awesome, shame the Rev 1s aren't all colour coded though :(

Good luck and stay safe, roads aren't great this time of year.

If snap oversteer is your cup of tea, then absolutely!

When was the cambelt changed? Have a look at the spark plugs, HT leads and definately check the rotor arm and inside the distributor cap. The contacts get eaten away very quickly on the turbo, and it loses you a surprising amount of power. Genuine cap is stupid money, but any Blueprint stockist should be able to get you one much cheaper.

Did you check the coolant? It should be clear "ribena red". If it looks murky and has gone a dark "red brick" colour it's time for a change. Cooling on the MR2 is not an area to neglect! Check the coolant regularly as well, if you need to top it up every so often the chances are you have a cracked heater pipe. Very common on early MR2's and a bit of a bitch to replace unfortunately (you have to drop the fuel tank).

Worth taking the wheels off and checking pads and disks. Sticking calipers are probably about the most common fault this car has, so check temperature of the wheels after a run, a warm alloy means trouble.

Any good quality 10W30 synthetic.

From what I can tell, that is a GTi-16, so no turbo (Uk car). As for service items, get yourself over to the IMOC forums and have a browse through their search tool!

Get some rev2+ alloys and some clean lenses on that and it'll look

Good point, it doesn't have the toblerone indicator repeaters at least, though they are often ditched.

Everything I wrote still applies though, apart from they don't eat igntion systems at the same rate.

Nice car, congrats :)

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE be careful with it, especially considering the upcoming weather, your lack of driving experience, and the fact a 306 was too much for you. PLEASE take it easy, this car will bite if not handled with care.

Thought about booking in for a day of decent driving instruction? It'll help you enjoy the car more and it'll keep you safer.

Yep my Rev1 Turbo kicked out at about 15/20mph once before, that did have cheap tyres on it though.

I can see an N/A being worse in the wet really.

I've given him a hammering about being careful with it too ;)

thanks fox.

what type of thing will they do if i did book in for a day?? i did think about it but thought maybe it will be like a driving lesson again??

Cracking car mate, looks lovely. I have had first hand experience at how easy these things kick out, even at a decent speed. All the weight is in the back, it's rear wheel drive with a 2.0 litre twin cam 16v engine. NOT to be messed with. Even in the summer it will fly out.

If i were you, i would buy some Rev2 alloys and some Yoki tyres ASAP. Don't do anything stupid until you have got those tyres nice and sticky.

The driving day is a good idea, they wll show you how to push your car hard, but to know it's limits and when is/isn't a good time to do it. They should also show you HOW to get out of a ...... sticky situation.

P.S. Get a K&N induction kit for it. No other sound like it when you hear air getting sucked in on the powerband and the twin cam roaring at you right behind your head.

Seriously, be careful and have fun. Bags of it.

I'd advise against that for now. It would encourage him to put his foot down to hear the noise. Do that mid corner and it could be the last thing you ever hear :o

Totally agree with getting the Rev 2+ alloys though, get some wide rear tyres on there asap.

Yeah get some MR2 15" wheels on there, shouldnt be much from Ebay :)

Welcome to the club! Love my MR2, best car I've had by miles. :D

i have just got some Mr2 Rev 2 alloys. Free to a good home ;)

so getting them picked up soon. although i was thinking of refurbing them in white??

how hard would that be to do?
