Got my new 5670... now having issues

I had a similar issue with an older board (A8N-VM CSM). I couldn't POST period. In your case, if you can't POST, how and where do you see the CPU underclocked? And with the CPU @ 2.5, does the system boot with the 5670?

It does post but it takes 3 attempts - thats even with a 530W PSU and no other power connections to any drives etc...

When finally prompts at the POST it says the system failed to boot then defaults all the CPU settings. No matter how I change these it makes no difference.

Maybe its not the PSU then?

Im going to buy a 5670 and im running a generic 400W PSU , Hope none of this happens to me D: ?

Any suggestions

I really don't think it's a PSU issue. There's just no way that my tagan 650W can't power a fairly lowly card like the 5670. I'm sure it's a motherboard/PCI-E incompatibility problem and there are a few scattered reports on the intrawebs of others having problems, but no answers.

I am in complete agreement. I think some boards just arnt man enough to cope with that much draw from the PCI-E slot.

ATI at fault? they should have put 1 x 6 pin pci-e power connector on the card then to make sure? their testing was obviously not extensive enough

agree. Ive just had to pull the card as it was effecting power again - this time to the cpu. One of my cores was @ 100% and hot as **** - while the other was laid back.

The same issue as I had when I didnt give it enough juice on my first processor OC.

While that was happening it knocked the colours out on my main display too. Will give OC a call in the morning and see if it can be returned.

Thanks for all your help here guys - shame it didnt work out.

Oh - and while i remember - set the OC again and it stuck like glue. Now running @ 3.2

Technically not give but "returned". I rang the OC support guys and they seem to think its faulty. Will see what they say and possibily request that I'll pay a few more quid and get a better card.

Back on the 8400GS again now... nice.

Hmm what do you think, should i look at anotehr graphics card instead then?

I mean im running a 400w generic PSU

Personally I would wait until I get some info from OC. If its faulty then I dont see any problem with getting one.

I think no matter what you do I would factor in a decent PSU with your purchase

Just to update everyone on this, I installed a new 785G motherboard this weekend (plus new cpu and ram) but using the same PSU I had before. And the 5670 card worked first time.

So for anyone else searching this thread in the future, I can as good as confirm this is a motherboard incompatibility issue that is stopping these cards from POST ing, not the PSU, not the card itself.

Got the Gigabyte board and all is well.. at last!!

Def incompatible with some boards. Thanks for all the help guys

Yeah - thats what i am hoping for. The board seems to have a lot more options in the way of OC'ing.

While I was back on my 8400GS i was toying with all manner of upgrades - mainly i3 @ 4Ghz but hoping to get a bit more out of it. Would be happy with a 24/7 stable 3.4.
