Got my new Canon L series lens - help!

the crop factor does affect camera shake effect.
think of a macro lens. because the object is projected so much larger (im am not going to use the word magnified) on the sensor the 1/focal length rule goes out the window as at 1:1 its probably 1/focal length x2. i.e for my 150mm macro on FF would need 1/300s+ for hand held shots. on my crop its best at over 1/420s

As the field of view narrows the margin of error reduces as well.

Google is full of resources. Every single page I have read indicates you have to take the crop factor into account. And analysing the physics clearly shows the crop factor is important.

Blur is proportional to the relative movement of the projected image circle across the sensor plane which is relative to the size of a sensor. 1 cm/s movement on a 500x500cm giant sensor (0.2% relative movement) would not be less than on a 0.5cmx0.5cm (200% relative movement)

the crop factor does affect camera shake effect.

there is no proof that the crop factor affects camera shake, its true there are lots of websites that do mention it but there is no conclusive proof

its my opinion and experience that it doesnt affect it, the physical properties do not change at all apart from the sensor picking up less of the image circle. which is akin to cropping a FF by a factor of 1.6 in photoshop

the answer is there is no answer

I've never factored in the crop factor when using the 1/focal length rule.

My understanding of it is the rule is 1 over the focal length. The crop factor changes the field of vision and not the focal length. So, 300mm is 1/300s regardless on if I'm shooting with my 1.3 crop or 1.6 crop.

But at the end of the day, it is a rule of thumb. It isn't an exact rule. Trial and error is the best way.

300mm on a 1.6 crop @ 1/50s......
