Got myself a 'powerbar' chin up / pull up bar - mini review + pics

not the most elegant looking!! but certainly does the job.
i remember when going to the gym years ago i struggled doing 5 chinups but now 25 is a breeze:D

lol yeah, i did look at the power bar but the door frames dont have any ledges so couldnt, borrowed mates bar that goes inbetween the door and found it was way to low and not wide enough (im 6'2) also looked at the ones that bolt to the wall but my punch bag fell off as the walls are not strong enough.

this is bolted to the joists then reinforced with cross beams to give added strength, my mate whos getting on 20 stone and taller than me can use it and it dont budge.

not bad to say it cost me about £10 and an hours work :D

How much marking does using this cause to the doorframe? Have been considering getting one of these but as the flat i'm in is rented I dont want to cause any damage to doorfarmes that I could possible end up being charged for.

Cheers

Haven't looked yet, but my doorframes are metal so I doubt it'd do much. It cannot fail to eventually mark the paintwork visible on the side of the frames however, so when we sell this house it'll just need a lick of gloss I'd imagine.

If you have flimsy looking wooden door frames and are concerned about smashing them up and getting rogered by the landlord, then I'd just use the ones at the gym!

On my doorframe it makes no marks. However I had it over the summer in a different house and the plaster on the wall was very thin so it made a small hole.

Sorry for the bump but I read this thread a few weeks ago and forgot to reply.

I got a powerbar a few years ago and I would recommend one to anyone who doesn't have the space to fix a permanent bar. I made my bar for about the same price as a powerbar (£25-30) and I love it.

It's mounted higher than it probably looks, I'm about 5'11 and I have to stand on tip toes to make a wide grip. It's 120cm wide with a 1.5" diameter bar... Wider than most bars but I found it actually makes chip-ups harder because you have to grip more with your forearms.

I got one of these about 3 months ago, i used it about 4 times a week doing pull ups / push ups, can notice my abs and biceps are getting stronger. I couldn't hardly do 1 pull up when i started, now i can usually do 10 reps with good form

Well I can now do four WG pull ups with strict form, so progress has been fairly good!

Some of you will be like 'well the grip isn't that wide' but I think it's as wide as it needs to be.

Now aiming for 10 reps at bodyweight by Christmas.

Ha, I got a cheap one and put it up the other day.

I suck at pull ups. Can only manage 4. But this week I've been doing 3x4 every day amongst other things.

Can't afford a gym membership so I'm just following the army fitness routine in the house.

I have no idea.

Just to be stronger really, I mean I can only do 4 or 5 pull ups, I wouldn't mind being able to bang 10-15 out

Just being more defined if you get me.

I'm just training up for when I goto basic training so It's not like I need to be mr universe

My set house routine is:

Pushups 3 x 12
Situps 3 x 12
Tricep dips (with a chair) 3 x 12
Pulls 3 x 4
Dorsal raises 3 x 12

Can I include anything else... and how often should I do this? every other day or every day?

Doesn't seem like much. I go running 3times a week too
