Is it likely to be biologically unsafe? Dare I open it? I have a load of beer in the fridge already, waiting for Christmas, so I though perhaps I could dish some out when my mates come round for some seasonal jars? Maybe that'd be unwise and I'd end up on a manslaughter charge?

I've given crates of bottled lager to friends that were two years out of date, and they said they couldn't taste much difference. None of them were ill, and one night they must have each drunk a dozen bottles (I drank out of date Newcastle, never a lager fan, and I stopped drinking altogether a while ago.)

Im sure the reason they have expire dates on most product is because chemical reactions occure and certain details will differ to what it may say on the package and its illegal to sell in that case...

in beers case.. maybe more alcoholic ?
im sure its fine but dont cash in on it.

The results:

To say it is gassy in that keg would be an understatement. The resulting glass was originally about 80% head from the beer spraying into the glass/over the worktop/everywhere. It exited the tap with a hollow, high pitched farty sound.

It smells....picks up glass...more alcoholic than 4.8%, though quite normal.

It tastes....(probably) nothing like it should (I've only had Boddingtons once before), pretty watery, savoury, you can tell it's beer, but kind of 16th century style. A bit like honey minus the sugar. I think I need to buy a can to compare to be able to deem it fit for human consumption. I will however drink this half pint and see what happens!
