Got some money...invest it?

I didn't actually claim to know how much you owned - I said probably - but whilst we are on the subject the fact you felt the best advice to give to a 16 year old who has scraped together 1200 quid is 'invest it in commodities lololol' doesn't inspire confidence.

well care to share with us why its such a bad idea?

its gone up all year and predictions from experts are they it is probably going to double still. i would say its actually quite a safe bet if you do the research (which you clearly haven't)

and your probably is very wrong, here is a small part of my collection

Because it's not watertight and it's all the money he has!

either you want to invest it or you dont

if you want safe, put it in the bank , dont earn much interest and thats fine

if you want to "invest" and try to make it work for you , you need to do something else with it

He is 16 years old. He has just 1200 quid. He specifically mentions that he's considered an ISA.

What do you honestly think his intentions are here?

a) To find somewhere half decent to put his money
b) To become a commodities wheeler-dealer.

I mean come on!

It's just more 'Look at me, I have silver' posturing. I bet you had the high res picture prepared before I'd even posted anyway.

To most people, 'to invest' means 'to put it in a savings account'.

If 'to invest' means 'To invest in commodities' then you already know what to do with it and don't need to ask an internet computer forum for tips.

well why dont we ask the OP instead of making guesses on his behalf?

the OP asked about ways to invest and i have suggested what i personally consider the best way (as i have done so myself)

im not saying to become "a commodities wheeler-dealer."

i am offering a slightly riskier but much more rewarding way of investing based on LOTS of research that i have done

here is the last year of silver growth

Would something like £100 get any silver? or would it not be worth it?
How would i go about buying it then selling it?

The only advice I'd take right now is that if you wish to invest it - do a bit of research first.

Sadly you'll have to do it away from this thread because those two berks are comically arguing away.

But you have roughly some ideas here.

I'm more than happy to be personally insulted when I'm arguing the toss about Corsa interior plastics in Motors but when I've done nothing in this thread but try and provide the OP with a little bit of sensible and realistic advice against a backdrop of ridiculously inappropriate suggestions I find your insult quite offensive.

Zopa.com

much better returns than regular savings,
much safer than stocks,
and its more involving in that you set your rates and have total control

yes it would, its about £30 an ounce so you could get 3 x 1 ounce coins

i would only do it if you can leave it longer term and not need the money in a hurry

just because you find the suggestions "ridiculously inappropriate"

that is just your opinion and your entitled to it

Correct, it is my opinion that advising a 16 year old to pour all his life savings into commodities when he really just fancies an ISA is reckless.

In other words, my advice is correct advice? :p

You've just gave the other side of the arguement for investing.

Yeah it's risky but it can be very rewarding.

I just don't think he should do it on a whim and do research, which is what I said earlier and that he should play safe if he doesn't feel like doing the research etc.

Edit - On further thought he does seem unsure and to that I say, play safe.
