First ever proper job i've applied for, only a summer job till uni starts though.

I'm so releived and excited :D It's second line IT support, not bad considering I have zero IT qualifications and only just done my first year of my degree. I had to take this IT test for the job but it was relatively easy so think I did well on it, my brother tells me that there were at least 15 other applicants for the job

EVERYONE CELEBRATE DRINKS ARE ON THE NEXT POSTER! :o

edit: It went badly wrong, see post #14.

You're doing better than me and without IT qualifications too.

Don't put yourself down you will get a job eventually I was damn lucky to get this one I think.

I know the IT industry is one of the worst for job availability and wasn't expecting to get a job in it at all this summer especially considering this was the only job I could find in the whole of Swindon

Just keep applying for positions, they can't ignore you forever :)

I remember coming out of that IT test worrying because I didn't get GPS and realising afterwards ahh global positioning system lol. The first section was acronoyms and the rest was IT support question malarky.

I'm not expecting to get into IT, Mcdonalds will too. Job's a job.

Exactly it doesn't matter at this stage so much. I was pretty much expecting to get a job in a department store before I got the good news. I hope you were joking about Mcdonald's, i'm assuming you meant shop front sort of job.

If you weren't joking then my symphathies go out to you :(

Its probably not the best time to be looking for work, so more kudos to you for getting something half-decent.

The jobs at Medion. I found it on this recruitment website which linked me to another recruitment agency. I didn't even realise who the company was and still wouldn't have till my brother told me it's the same one hes working at ironically.

Btw I do hope you go to Staffs uni and that you drive :D :p

I got a job at Argos today. Fun fun fun! Thank god it's only a summer job i couldn't imagine working somewhere like that as a 'life job'

I dont plan Mcdonalds or whatever to be a life job, but some situations dictate that you cant be fussy.

Thought I'd revive this thread rather than start a new one. This actually happened a couple of weeks ago now. What happened was that I phoned them a week or so after they offered me the job and they said they can't take me on because i'm going back to uni in September.

Personally I think it's incredibly rude to make me do their stupid IT test and then offer me the job when they could have realised I was going to uni from reading my CV before making me do the IT test.

Does anyone else think employers have no consideration for wasting applicants time? I have lots of other evidence for this like I applied for lots of department store type jobs as they all said they were recruiting only to be later told "oh oh we aren't actually whoops"

Am currently looking to put an advert in the local shop as a PC repair man so any advice regarding that would be appreciated thanks.

I recently undertook a rather protracted application process for a job in IT. This involved 3 stages:

1. Application
2. 80 minute examination/test
3. 15 minute case study with presentation and panel interview

Is this typical? The job was reasonable but it wasn't the Managing Director's position!

It went to an internal candidate

LOL. What job was it for? To project manage a migration from Windows 2000 to Vista? :D Blimey. All the IT interviews I've had have just been an hour's quacking with the department manager.

It was an analyst position with my local council and involved supporting Windows 2003 Servers etc.

I'm not sure what's "typical" these days... I worked for a large multinational for 10 years so have pretty much been isolated from the recruitment process.

Wasnt even that hard a role...they would train you to do the job, all you needed was aptitude and a little PC knowledge doesnt hurt. Oh, and 5 GCSEs at A-C.
